Who deserves credit for the popularity of chukkas and their sneaker offspring in recent years? Is it Clarks Originals, the pioneer of the desert boot and wallabee styles? What about Nike, who’ve crafted countless variations including hybrids fused with familiar design language? Or is it Vans, the brand who’s had a chukka in their catalog longer than just about every sneaker manufacturer? The answer is obviously a confluence of all these forces, but when you see the Vans Chukka Boot in black/white and all-black, it’s easy to see how Off the Wall contributed to the popularity. Have a closer look so you can see which colored sole/laces you prefer, then grab a pair from retailers like The General.

One of Vans’ most memorable 2012 releases involved a novel application on premium leather courtesy of Chicago’s Horween tannery, and here’s a new style for spring that further pushes the boundary of what we’ve come to expect from camouflage sneakers. The ‘Hula Camo’ Vans California Chukka Boot CA isn’t really camo at all, but rather an all-over floral plus female print whose palm leaf pattern qualifies as something of a playful ode to concealment patterns. These are super wearable with mostly neutral tones and just a hint of red for extra energy, and you’ll find them at select Vans retailers next month.

Few materials can make you feel so warm just by looking at them as a hearty woolen flannel, so while the place for which the Vans California collection is named doesn’t feature too terribly much cold weather, it’s good to know Off the Wall is looking out for the rest of us. This new ‘Flannel Pack’ brings forth two new Vans Era CA lowtops and one Chukka Boot CA that matches, leaving us wondering where the green/caramel colored version might be. Stick with Sneaker News for all the latest Vans updates but don’t sleep on these three; they’re available now straight from Vans.

Camo sneakers are becoming less and less about honoring the traditional concealment patterns and more and more about exploring new textures, and in that frame we present to you a ‘camouflaged’ shoe that’d only blend into the background on a beach full of dudes rocking Supreme floral prints. The Vans California ’Aloha Camo’ pack isn’t going to blend in too many places thanks to a unique blue, red and brown print on the Vans Authentic and Chukka Boot, but its name does a good job of hinting at the all-over appeal and tying up two of the hottest trends this summer. These should be out in time for next spring, so have a closer look after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for release info. via HB
