Vans is probably the all-time leader when it comes to eye-catching patterns put to use on sneaker silhouettes, so for a print as common as leopard rosettes, you know they’ve already issued several variations. One of this year’s standouts was a rainbow-backed Authentic, and here we see it can still perform admirably well with the basic nature look. In fact, these are quite similar to a pair that released alongside a grey base this summer (only significant difference being the eyelet color), but coming up for spring, they’ll be joined by the Vans Era and Old Skool, all with black trim and depicted further after the jump below.

Earlier this year, a French fashion label with a vaguely Japanese-sounding name came through with a bunch of patterned collaborative designs. Rounding out 2012, we see this Lincoln/Kennedy arrangement flipped, as Japan’s Adam et Ropé teams up with Off the Wall on a new style based on traditional beach outerwear. The Adam et Rope x Vans Era features a navy blue mix of suede and ‘salt and pepper’ beachcloth atop your choice of an all-white or checkerboard-walled Waffle sole. Vans is among the most expressive companies out there today when it comes to pairing their classic models with fresh new themes and hybrid DNA, but that doesn’t in any way preclude Off the Wall from embracing its core essence. Teamed up with Vans on New York’s The General, Dave’s Quality Meat has offered some fairly muted Off the Wall collaborations of late. The latest is no exception but also paradoxically a standout release, as the DQM x Vans Sk8-Hi ‘Woven’ joins a similarly styled Era to push into uncharted territory for California’s skate kings. Featuring a hand-woven black diamond pattern contrasted by caramel overlays, these have a luxurious feel and a price to match, so even though they’re a bit more costly than your average Sk8s or Eras, they’ll be gone soon after the at Thursday release at DQM.

Adding a fleece sockliner is a quick way to make any sneaker feel warmer in time for winter, and Vans knows this from experience. Plenty of Off the Wall silhouettes have been treated to fleece fillings, and two more take the plunge this winter, joining a few other water-resistant pig suede styles as part of the Vans Classics ‘Cold Weather’ pack. The Vans Era and Mid Skool ’77 get the fuzzy treatment while the 106 Vulc and Switchback opt for a more traditional build that still has the same moisture-repellent properties. Nike has, among many others, the classic Vintage Box striping and the distinct look of the Woven series, adidas has their time-tested Dellinger Web and has mastered the modern animal print look, and for Off the Wall, their signature patterned look is one you might expect from inviting all the others to a picnic (in your VW bus). The immortal Vans Checkerboard is more of a throwback to the rad ’80s than an appropriation of the gingham check (which Nike has thoroughly utilized, coincidentally), and reminds us of the prototypical California surfer boy as represented by Sean Penn in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
