Vans has been celebrating the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero’s midtop signature model all year and this latest design comes full circle with the ‘artist’ responsible for the scissored-off silo itself. The Vans Half Cab Artist Series gets dipped in burgundy suede courtesy of the legendary Mr. Cab, and the effort is made all the more special thanks to a classic Powell-esque dragon and Japanese characters on the ’20 Years’ ankle tag. Vans has only selectively experimented with this signature design element, so this preview makes us wonder what might be in store for the Half Cab’s second score. The Artist Series will continue to issue monthly installments after Mofo’s June and Dirty Donny’s July designs, so check out more photos below, and be sure to stick with Sneaker News for the exact release date on this August drop. via Complex

The pastel island print we previewed on a pair of Sk8-His for early 2013 was unique compared to what we’ve seen from Vans or really any other brand, but as for this latest preview from Bread & Butter, you could write out a description that should match up with an exact picture in mind. The Vans Half Cab is pictured above in the traditional four-color camouflage range, a pattern that’s been rounded off a la Bape and accented with black suede like we’ve seen from Gourmet. Combining the influences of a couple of trendsetters with Off the Walls inimitiable California cool results in another winner and you can see those plus a couple of suede designs with Pushead-esque bleached underlays, all after the jump below. Appropriating the Stooges’ most famous song by calling himself a “streetwalking cheetah with a hand full of crayons,” ‘Dirty’ Donny Gillies makes reference to the ease with which he blended playful binder-worthy imagery with the rebellious energy of influential rock subcultures. Dirty Donny has crafted artwork for bands like The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age and Metallica, and now he’s joining in Off the Wall’s 20th anniversary celebration for one of their most iconic silos. The Dirty Donny x Vans Half Cab pairs royal blue suede with Donny’s unique branding tags for a look that’s both familiar and unlike any of the others from this birthday set. Check them out in greater detail below and get ready for Dirty Donny’s Half Cabs to arrive at Vans Vault dealers like Hot Rod later this month. via N-SB

Vans’ Half Cab has been a skate icon for two decades, but it wouldn’t have been the same if Steve Caballero hadn’t scissored-off the collar from his hightop Off the Wall signature. And the Half Cab’s familiar ankle patch would have never existed in the form we’ve come to know in love had Caballero not been photographed by the guest designer for this latest pair. The Mofo x Vans Half Cab is a black suede design with a graphic representation of the classic ollie silhouette that reminds Mörizen Föche’s contributions to the skate scene extend beyond his work with Thrasher. Vans is celebrating twenty years producing Steve Caballero’s ‘second’ signature sneaker, a model he created himself by scissoring-off the top portion of the OG Caballero hightop’s ankle collar. Off the Wall even issued duct tape-collared 20th Anniversary Half Cabs in tribute to Steve’s original ‘design’, teamed up to drop a few collabo designs and is gradually releasing more pairs like this one pictured above to fill in the rest. These 20th anniversary Vans Half Cabs come in a rich forest green suede that’s contrasted by white laces/sole and a black liner, and you’ll find them available at the best Off the Wall retailers including their DQM-co-headlined store in New York, The General.

Even if you aren’t a student of the Chinese zodiac, your sneakerhead curiosity all but ensures you recognize this as the Year of the Dragon. And although we know that Nike Sportswear has another ‘YOTD’ Air Force 1 Low (at least in a sample form), another brand has just issued a collaboration that claims to be ‘The Last Dragon’ The HKIT x Vans Half Cab Pro comes in a fierce Chicago-style mix of nubuck and glossy lizard scales, a look whose red laces and sockliner come off as the design’s fire-breathing tongue.
