2012′s been quite the important milestone year for a number of footwear brands. While the Air Force 1 continues its XXX-rated party, the Vans Half Cab – a staple in skate for two decades – celebrates its own milestone, and does so by collaborating with Primitive Shoes of California. Dubbed the ‘Cable Knit’, these Half Cabs are constructed of rich pig suede with the cable knit detailing on the collar and tongue, finished off with a gunmetal plaque on the upper. The Primitive Shoes x Vans Half Cab ‘Cable Knit’ and the accompanying beanie hat will release this Sunday online and in-store at Primitive Shoes, so check out the extra images below (paired with some eye candy in the form of Shay Maria) and let us know what you think about this sick Vans collaboration.

The Supreme team made sneakerhead dreams come true yesterday as a leak from their reprisal with another famed footwear entity sent the internet into a frenzy, but also on the horizon is another team up coming with a company they have an arguably even deeper connection with. That company is Vans, a brand who shares a core skate aesthetic with Supreme and has gotten together with them on countless occasions prior. The latest is an Andy Warhol styled trio of sneakers including the Vans Sk8-Hi, Vans Era, and Vans Half Cab, all of which manage to stay in line with the typical Supreme palette thanks to the Campbell’s Soup look. It’s been less than a month since we got our first look at their Bedford collabo from the OTW Collection and already we have word of another new Vans x Primitive teamup. And from the looks of these images snapped on the product floor, it seems likely that this Primitive x Vans Half Cab ‘Cable Knit’ will arrive before those Bedfords, even if their muse is the type of garment many of us are just now starting to pack away for the winter. Their grey suede and wool uppers are supremely versatile and you can’t argue with the premium quality on this brass-plated pair, but will you be among the crowd rocking this beanie/sweater-inspired kicks during the summer months? Let us know when you hit the jump to see more, and stick with Sneaker News for release info on the latest Primitive sneaker collaboration.

The Vans Half Cab was recently presented to us au natural courtesy of Mr. Caballero himself in conjunction with Supreme, but scissors and duct tape isn’t the only way to blend one of 1992′s best with the cutting edge. This new 20th Anniversary Half Cab comes in white suede with a matching sole, along with black on the tongue, lining and branding. This is one of a by now countless quantity of white and black sneakers sold this spring, but the blocking is so novel for this silo that they manage to stand out while fitting in — something like a metaphor for this simplest-of-all-colorways’ prominence at this point in history. Click through for more and hit up Premier to get in on the anniversary celebration.

Sneaker News has previewed a couple upcoming sets from Vans in recent weeks that come with the kind of pack names that could be applied to a huge chunk of Off the Wall’s total output. Names like ‘Two Tone’ and ‘Suede’ are both descriptive and leave quite a bit to the imagination, and the same is true of this new ‘Suited Pack’ containing three of their beloved classics. These don’t exactly have the kind of dressy appeal you might have expected from the nickname, but they are indeed suitably simple for capping off a more upscale casual look. Click through to see Vans Half Cabs, Slip-Ons and Authentics all done in relatively calm canvas colorways and look for these now at select Vans Classics retailers. via FNG

Before Supra started nicknaming every trio of themed sneaker designs they released last summer, there was another massively popular skate brand that utilized this technique. In that way as well as the designs and colors being utilized, the Vans Classics ‘Two Tone’ Pack hearkens to the past, and there’s even the tiniest bit of Magic in these vaguely Orlando-like releases for this NBA All-Star month. But once you strip away all the unnecessary connections, you’re back to black and blue atop a white waffle sole, a look that’s replicated across the Vans Half Cab, Era and 106 Vulc. “I don’t know when the first time I saw someone who had cut them down, but I know it was a trend.”
We’re coming up on the 20th anniversary of Steve Caballero‘s second Vans signature shoe, and in a recent conversation with Complex‘ chief sneakerhead Bengtson, the man called ‘Cab’ shared how he got inspiration from other skaters after his original pro model dropped in 1989. Skaters were chopping off the hightop Caballero to make something more suitable for the street skating that’d come into vogue around the turn of the decade, and when Steve himself decided to give it a shot, history was made. 1992 brought us the Vans Half Cab in the form we know and love it today, and Supreme will drop a super-limited special edition pack in honor of the two decade anniversary that revisits the origins of this skateboarding institution. Click through to see some classic images of Caballero shredding and stick with Sneaker News for more info on the Supreme x Vans Half Cab 20th Anniversary.

The custom sneaker scene is bigger now than ever before, and while colorway and sole swaps are great, it’s rare to see the athlete for whom a shoe was both designed and named come in to do the handiwork. But that’s exactly what skateboarding legend Steve Caballero did for this collaboration between Vans and Supreme on the occasion marking two decades since the debut of his most enduring contribution to the game. The Supreme x Vans Half Cab 20th Anniversary special edition gets back to the model’s roots with a tiny 20-pair run starting off as the Caballero hightop that celebrated it’s 20th a few years back, and getting scissored down by Steve himself before duct tape finishes off the ankle collar. Click through to see a video depicting one of the pairs being completed and stick with Sneaker News for updates on this jealousy-inducingly limited release.
