New York-based skate/lifestyle brand Supreme was among those bridging the gap between the trend that’d been established a bit earlier in Japan, and helped to bring animal prints into full view here in the states. Their ‘Flies Pack’ of Sk8-His and Eras offered a playful take on the all-over animal look, and now we see these two team up once more to issue another pack from an underused corner of the kingdom. The Supreme x Vans Half Cab ’Giraffe’ reminds us that only a horsehair adidas Originals Nizza from about a year ago has offered a similar look, all while offering a nice foil against their upcoming Warhol-inspired ‘Campbell Soup’ offerings. Check out these Giraffe Half Cabs (say that three times fast) in greater detail after the jump, and stick with Sneaker News so we can let you know when they hit US retailers. via Taobao

New year, new kicks from all the brands you’ve come to know and love. We’re seeing the Spring 2012s from basically everybody now that the holiday shopping season has wrapped, and Vans has come through with a few new look from some of their best loved heritage designs. We’ll start with one of Off the Wall’s most iconic silhouettes, the Vans Sk8-Hi, this navy suede pair accented by white and augmented iwth a Notchback ankle collar as designated in its formal name. Elsewhere in the high-cut suede classic department is two new Half Cabs in a Washington Redskins duo of monochromatic getups. They’re rivaled in simplicity by a black leather Zapato del Barco, but that shoe’s midtop Chukka rendition adds some extra contrast with a two-material upper setup. One pair of the lowtop Chukka with a patterned side panel closes out this set along with two new Ludlow lowtops from the OTW collection, and all of these are available at select Vans shops like Primitive.

The whole denim on sneakers look can be pretty hit or miss. On one hand you have classics like the Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Denims’ and on the other hand you have the scrapped denim Air Jordan III’s samples that popped up recently. We’ll put this Vans capsule in the former category, with the four sneakers included wearing the jeans look quite well. There are two pairs each of the Vans Half Cab and the Vans Era, with the two silhouettes getting a straight blue jeans colorway and as well as a black and grey mixture. Take a full look at all four of them after the jump and be on the lookout for them at spots like Proper.

Paul Rodriguez’ Primitive boutique has done some interesting things lately, opening a shop in Berlin and more recently revealing a collaboration with Gourmet on a ‘Space Jam’-styled Quadici. To see P-Rod’s shop get up with a brand other than the Swoosh is somewhat surprising, but despite the fact that Gourmet got its start copying Air Jordan Legacy silhouettes, they’re not a true competitor in anything but the lifestyle market. But Vans is the world’s largest skateboarding and action sports company, their waffle-soled skate shoes a real threat to Paul’s own Nike SB. That’s what makes the Primitive x Vans Half Cab such an intriguing collaboration, and when you add in the unique knitting on their ankle collars, this turns into one of the more interesting drops we’re looking forward to in Q1 2012. About two and a half years ago, Vans issued a 20th Anniversary pack featuring a trio of Steve Caballero’s original Off the Wall signature model, and though his impact on the game is undeniable, there’s a good chance that you’ve never worn a pair of those. In fact, Steve himself was so accustomed to scissoring-off the top end of his hightop sig that the Vans Half Cab was issued a few years later in 1992 to prevent the necessity for a duct taped ankle collar. It’s obviously almost always better to have a well constructed shoe rather than one you piece together with parts you can find at a
pharmacy, but in the case of the 20th Anniversary Half Cabs, the intention is to preserve the model’s legacy and keep the quality and collectability up. The shoe is constructed in a rich black suede and its 20 pairs each feature the ‘Half Cab’ anniversary patch that’s echoed on the box that’ll apparently only be available at Supreme. Click through to see more of these plus four other 20th Anniversary Half Cabs inspired by classic Thrasher covers and stick with Sneaker News for the US release dates. via HS

When you consider all the classic silhouettes Vans has offered over the years, models like the Sk8-Hi, Authentic and Era come to mind. These original silhouettes could be evenly divided into hightops and lows, but in the ’80s, skaters were testing the limits wherever they could and found that mids often rode the best. So when Steve Caballero noticed that this trend had culminated in kids chopping his Off the Wall signature off right at the ankle, he discussed the design for a new model with Vans. The Vans Half Cab was born, and twenty years later we’re celebrating this score with a series of classic colorways along with a 20-pair run of hand-cut and hand-taped ‘Half’ Cabs scissored by Caballero himself. If we mentioned ‘shadow Vans’ without any context, regular Sneaker News readers would probably picture the Shadow Conpsiracy collaboration with Off the Wall we previewed a couple months back. That pack is still awaiting a release with no solid date set, but we do know with relative certainty that the Vans ‘Dark Shadow Pack’ releases pictured above will drop in Q3. Comprised of identically blocked Vans Half Cabs and Authentics, these mix a charcoal suede upper with black laces and soles to get a dark look that’s made more inviting thanks to its tonal depth. Click through to see both pairs and check back with us for word on the US release date. via FNG

Sneaker News has shown you high-profile collaborations with Vans this week, but Hello Kitty and Supreme (x2) aren’t the only ones out there designing Off the Wall colorways. Check out this new run of Vans releases for summer, most of which are from their classic lineup. We’ll start with a trio of Vans Half Cabs in monochromatic canvas uppers plus black tongues, laces and other details. Next up is a quartet of Authentics in similarly simple styles, plus one more in a white/navy two-toned look. The monochromatics resume with three new Old Skool ’77s, with the rarely seen Sk8-Lo coming along in three of its own. Two Chukka Lows and a pair of Woessners from the OTW Collection round out this set, and you can see more images by clicking on the jump below before you grab a pair or two from select Vans retailers like Primitive.
