Tiger camo has played an important role in bringing textures and patterns to different sneaker silhouettes over the past year. Vans introduced the Madero lowtop last summer and it has remained fairly low-key ever since. Lucky for fans of the classic derby style, that’s changing with these two new ‘Twill’ Vans Maderos named for the material used on their monotone uppers. Your choice of taupe or black features a blaze orange flag that pushes their rugged cotton uppers toward a workwear vibe, while a paisley bandana lining offers a bit of extra detail only you’ll be able to know is hiding within. Vans entire legacy is built on the back of a couple of key plimsoll designs, but they’ve shown in recent years that while an oxford vamp may be superior for skate purposes, the roughly inverted derby style has its own place in the Off the Wall lineup. Designs like the Zero, Pritchard and Spectator have slipped the ‘open laced’ style into our everyday vocabulary and now a new model is set to debut for the fall season. The Vans California Madero continues the move toward refining the classics with an ever so slightly slimmed down sole and two tweed colorups whose leather accents lend a premium touch.
