It debuted at the beginning of summer as a combination of Vans’ beloved Chukka silhouette and the 106 Moc’s moccassin toe design, and now the California Collection’s Mesa Moc readies itself for the colder half of the year. Three new Vans Mesa Mocs further suggest this silo does its best work in a single color of suede, as this trio emphasizes its namesake toes with contrast stitching on otherwise monotone wheat, wine and grey styles. Vans mastered the chukka sneaker like no other brand, owing both to the fact that they’ve been making them longer, and that the extra time has allowed them to experiment with more new styles than anyone else. The brand new Vans Mesa Moc pictured above comes from the California Collection with a style that came from even further west. So far west, in fact, it’s kind of a ‘far east’ connection, with the layered ‘mudguard’ area on these and overall shape resembling Taka Hayashi’s work for Vans Vault, particularly the Akat LX.
