Vans has worked quite a bit with the ‘Aged Leather’ motif in recent months. The successes are reflected in pairs you see your friends wearing as well as further releases, and today we have the third set featuring this title in the past few months. The Vans Old Skool and Authentic both show up in rich brown tones with uneven graininess that enriches the simple palette, the latter adding brass eyelets to add a layer of ‘classy’ to the classic vibes on these aged skate lowtops. Tyler the Creator of Odd Future fame now has even better reason to stay in Vans 24/7. The controversial rapper will have his own ‘Golf Wang’ branded version of the Vans Old Skool silhouette in four colorways coming in June. The pairs feature plenty of OFWGKTA details, from the all-over kitty print on the insole to the crude cat graphic stamped on the tongue tag. Given their status as the longtime leaders of multicolor and otherwise visually engaging printed sneakers, it’s surprising to only now see the first Year of the Snake-inspired Vans. Even more than something like the Authentic and Era, whose plimsoll style is fairly ubiquitous, the 1977-born Off the Wall lowtop pictured above has a particularly ‘vintage’ feel. Vans Old Skool might be the most appropriate name in the skate sneaker world, this toe-capped lowtop about to release a new mix of blue suede and canvas plus a bit of gold on the Jazz stripe it introduced some thirty-five years ago. This is one of those collaborations that just had to happen sooner or later. Leader of the Odd Future collective Tyler the Creator’s star has apparently finally risen enough to garner the stamp of approval from the Vans team. Seen here is a preview of the upcoming project between the two, which sees Tyler‘s favorite Vans Syndicate Old Skool done in blue suede with some ‘Golf Wang’ detailing on the back end. Vans is probably the all-time leader when it comes to eye-catching patterns put to use on sneaker silhouettes, so for a print as common as leopard rosettes, you know they’ve already issued several variations. One of this year’s standouts was a rainbow-backed Authentic, and here we see it can still perform admirably well with the basic nature look. In fact, these are quite similar to a pair that released alongside a grey base this summer (only significant difference being the eyelet color), but coming up for spring, they’ll be joined by the Vans Era and Old Skool, all with black trim and depicted further after the jump below.
