As we head into the winter months, we’re seeing a surge of ripstop nylon applications, this latest drop another in a growing set of skate sneakers borrowing the gridded material most often used on running and trail shoes. The Vans Old Skool has a vague military vibe with these olive and black colorways adding the rugged nylon for which they’re named to the expansive side panels and ankle collars. Suede on the toe suggests some retained skatability, but whether ripstop can handle griptape as well as it conquers mountain trails remains to be seen. These are yours for the taking from The General, as are additional angles of both pairs after the jump.

It turns out Supreme has been even busier than we thought as far as current collabs go, their pending Nike Air Force 1 release being joined by this, a new set of Vans releases including four pairs of the Vans Chukka and four more of the Vans Old Skool. Each sneaker features a similar suede upper with some metallic touches along the side swipe and back tabs, a theme that almost looks like a reprisal of their approach with the Bruin a few years back. Hit the jump for a full look at the Supreme x Vans ‘Metallic Pack’ and keep in mind that the collection will drop at the NY, LA, London, and online shops on September 13th and the London spot on the 15th.

Nike has the Swoosh, Reebok is known for its vector, adidas is The Brand with the Three Stripes and Puma is synonymous with the Formstripe. WIP, or ‘Work in Progress’ is Carhartt’s avant-garde label, a clothing collection heavily influenced by the intersection of this brand’s rugged blue-collar heritage and reciprocal influences in the skate and streetwear communities. Their latest project is a collaboration with a brand that is to skateboarding what Carhartt is to workwear, as Vans Syndicate suits up four new styles of a classic lowtop set to spring on us tomorrow. The Carhartt WIP x Vans Syndicate Old Skool comes in three monochromatic colorways and one covered in four-color camo, and you can see that last one prominently displayed in the clever promo video after the jump below. In the two and a half years since the most recent Carhartt x Vans collabo kicks were first previewed, and in that period, we’ve seen the major brands dole out all manner of work boot and otherwise rugged designs. One such theme that’s become increasingly popular of late is camouflage, and with the popularity of print patterns still yet to hit its peak, this new Carhartt x Vans Old Skool is well placed to bring things full circle. A Rorschach of a four-color camo print meets up with Red Wing inspiration on the rich leather toe and eyestay, along with the Detroit brand’s familiar two-toned corded boot laces. Everything about this design speaks of time-tested Americana with a little extra aggression, so be sure to check back with Sneaker News for US release info.

The last pair of these to come out of Off the Wall’s Vault was Levi Maestro’s rainbow-soled collaboration, so what’s Vans going to do with the next round of premium Old Skool lowtops? The answer is simple. Now read that last sentence again, and you’ll have a clear understanding of the intent behind this new duo of Vans Vault Old Skool LX releases, two nubuck skate classics featuring white side panel stripes and soles, black waxed laces and foxing bands and a red footbed that only you’ll know about. These just arrived at top tier Vans stockists, and that of course includes their collaborative retail venture with DQM, The General.

Anyone with an eye on fashion knows that the Native American print look is pretty big right now, but the ongoing collection between Pendleton, Vans, and Nibwaakaawin is far from a quick cash in on the trend. The range keeps things close to Nibwaakaawin’s central goal of using the sport of skateboarding as a tool to galvanize the Native American youth, with %100 percent of proceeds from the sneaker sales going to their efforts. The latest capsule, shown here, is dropping in conjunction with the 2012 All Nations Skate Jam which is set to go down in Albuquerque next weekend. Stay with us after the jump for a better look at the silhouettes which include the Vans Slip-On, Vans Old Skool, and the Vans Sk8-Hi and let us know if you like this newest iteration of the Native look. via HS

Quick, name a couple of the most significant trends in sneaker design so far in early 2012. Regular Sneaker News readers will be readily able to provide some insight on this topic, our chronicling of fairly huge numbers of simple/elegant black and/or white kicks and almost as many with animal prints early this year a clear indication of the kinds of looks the major brands expect you to want this season. And in the case of this new pack of Vans Syndicate lowtops, they’ve been designed by a couple of pro skaters at the top of their game; in other words, a couple of guys who’re in a perfect position to set street-level trends. The Jason Dill x Vans Authentic Pro ‘S’ puts it all out on the line with a silvery snakeskin upper that represents the counterpart to Anthony Van Engelen’s cheetah print Old Skool ’92 ‘S’. Last but not least is a dual effort on a black leather Sk8-Lo that represents a confluence of the forces detailed above; are those accordingly the best of this pack that’s now available at Premier?
