Vans California Sk8-Hi Binding

Vans has used the Sk8-Hi as the basis for experimentation on several occasions.  One notable variation was the Native American that popped up sporadically in the early ’10s, whose Jazz Stripe-less deconstructed build is quite similar from what we’re seeing here today from the California collection.  The Vans Califorina Sk8-Hi Binding features a suffix shared by the Native American a few years back, which in this current iteration results in a minimized but reinforced 10oz canvas upper with metal eyelets and boot laces that make these feel like Sk8s, Chucks and Red Wings all rolled into one.  Have a closer look below and expect these at select retailers next month.

Vans Vault delivers their second all-suede heel-zipped Sk8-Hi for 2013.  The Vans Sk8-Hi LX Zip continues to kill the two-toned look with a royal blue and chocolate brown mix that wisely whites-out the classic waffle sole for the cleanest of looks.  Leather laces and zip-pulls finish these off with an appropriately premium punctuation and suggest further combos would be welcome following the same simple template.  Have a closer look at these after the jump and stick with Sneaker News for all the latest Vans.

Vans continues its partnership with Metallica, following the Kill Em All commemorative Half Cab with a new quartet mirroring the lineup they’ve trotted out for the past ten years.  The Vans x Metallica Signature Collection features one model for each band member, starting with the Vans Sk8-Hi Deconstruct inspired by vocalist James Hetfield’s favorite black boots.  Drummer Lars Ulrich brings in fellow Half Cab 20 collaborator Dirty Donny for a character to finish off his diamond-plated Era Laceless lowtop while lead shredder Kirk Hammett opts for a plainer black Slip-On featuring a collapsible heel.  The metal gods’ most recent addition Robert Trujillo adds Aztec designs drawn by his wife to the sides of the relatively obscure Escuela lowtop and you can decide for yourself with the aid of more photos below if its blue segments make them the pair you buy from Vans.

Following up on two overtly vintage-styled leather Vans California Sk8-Hi Reissues in December is another two-toned blast from the past that manages a more timeless appeal.  Black and red have been ubiquitous in the sneaker world since 1985, and even with ’78′s Sk8-Hi having preceded the Air Jordan 1 by a good seven years, it’s impossible to look at this design and not think of all the skaters, plenty Off the Wall riders included, who wore 1s.  Have a closer look below and grab yours today at select shops like Concepts.
