With Vans having been so far ahead of the curve with their deck shoe experimentation, Off the Wall is in a position to try some new things that we’ve not seen from other brands’ boat styles. Following up on this spring’s crepe-soled Sk8 hightops comes another variation from the premium Vault collection, this time offering a distinct design cue that’d be a bit harder to trace to a particular footwear style. The Vans Vault Sk8-Hi Boat Strap LX is presented in two earthy canvas and leather styles, the lighter of which features some flowery embellishments on the latter material. Have a look at both of them after the jump below, let us know where this variation ranks on the list of recent Sk8-Hi themes and stick with Sneaker News for US release info. via FNG

The entirety of Vans’ classics lineup has a ‘vintage’ feel to it, but there’s one line from the California Collection that takes the old school vibe a bit more seriously. The Vans California Sk8-Hi Reissue returns for the fall season with a couple new colorways that stay true to the series, achieving that well-aged look with monochromatic suede and leather builds accented by a single stripe. Imagine the green and red stripes a bit more vibrant and they’re pretty close to a redux of Stussy’s first Nike collaboration on two 2002 Blazers, a fact seasoned sneakerheads will find furthers these new drops’ timeless lean. Check them out in greater detail after the jump and expect these at select Off the Wall retailers this quarter. via F5

Just over three years ago, the greatest heavy metal band of all-time (especially in terms of album sales) collaborated with Converse on a duo of Chuck Taylor hightops. That 2009 two-pack featured album art from Ride the Lightning in celebration of its 25th anniversary along with another covered in an early Pushead drawing. We see an interesting bit of ‘Lincoln and Kennedy’ here as a few years later, on the precipice of Kill ‘Em All‘s 30th birthday and the second Pushead x Nike SB collaboration, the Metallica x Vans Classic pack brings us the closest thing Vans has to an All Star (the Sk8-Hi) along with a Slip-On, both featuring bloody hammers from the KEA album art. One hit wonders The Cardigans struck gold with the mid/late-’90s single ‘Lovefool’, and while many of that era’s musical memes have proven obsolete, the desire to have someone ‘Love Me’ remains one of the core human drives. This fact isn’t lost on New York-based artist Curtis Kulig, whose iconic tagline has shown up as a key component of this new collaboration with Vans. The Curtis Kulig x Vans Sk8-Hi offers a black, red and white build totally different from the checkerboard Slip-Ons or text-patterned Authentics in those same colors, and while they’re scheduled to arrive in the first half of next year, one can’t help but feel like these would make a heartwarming Valentine’s Day drop. Check them out in greater detail below and stick with Sneaker News for US release info. via HS

The most recent Vans Sk8-His came equipped with a couple of dress shirt-derived stripe patterns, but that doesn’t mean Off the Wall is going formal after all those Hawaiian and otherwise printed releases. To the contrary, expect new styles like this smartly colored island print for early next year, a Sk8-Hi whose tropical theme is echoed on the footbed of a flip-flop (suggesting even more?). This ‘Island Print’ design excels thanks to the contrast between its largely pastel palette and the bold forest green side stripe, while a golden brown lace plays mediator and really ties up the design with added balance. Click through to see a new Sk8-Hi that foreshadows not just future Vans output but potentially a crop of clever colorups and twists on the familiar printed releases, and stick with Sneaker News for updates. via EUkicks

Japanese fashion label Comme des Garcons teamed up with NY-born Supreme in a collaborative capsule of apparel centered around pinstriping and polka dots and distinguished by a reversed Supreme box logo, resulting in one of the must-have apparel releases of the year. The two urban powerhouses brings Vans into the mix as the three join forces to release a special edition colorway of the Vans Sk8-Hi and Vans Authentic. Both pairs use the pinstripe detailing with the red box-logo and the CDG Shirt label printed on the insoles. These were initially reported as a June release, but Supreme has confirmed availability for this Thursday, July 5th (with a delayed July 7th release at Supreme Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka locations in Japan). Best Vans x Supreme release of the year? Let us know.
