A week after Thanksgiving/Black Friday, dedicated sneakerheads were once again lined up outside a closed retailer, lining the sett-paved streets of Mercer and awaiting Nike Sportswear’s release of the seventh Doernbecher Freestyle collection. Key among the first day’s releases on Friday was the Doernbecher x Air Jordan III by Cole Johansen, the all-red/half-3M AJ3 whose signature laser etching pattern is original to its creator. People who’d been waiting since 5pm Thursday were happy to sneak into 21 Mercer at midnight in small groups, but within in an hour the most popular sizes 9 and 10 were all gone.
