Rajon Rondo’s best individual season to date was cut short yesterday when news of a torn ACL (an injury that takes up to a year to fully recover from) placed a dark cloud over the Boston franchise. The immediate future of Boston’s Playoff hopes has gotten considerably bleaker as the Eastern Conference All-Star guard is now forced to watch his struggling team from the sidelines, but Rondo’s work ethic should have him back on the court at 100% sooner than expected. Rondo, who is certainly out of that signature-sneaker range and more in the PE category, made more headlines than any other NBA player thanks to his surprising rotation of footwear, which we feel deserves a thorough viewing in light of the recent events.
For sneaker fans, Rondo was an immediate surprise when he opened the season with the Polarized Pink Foamposite Ones, and since then, he’s established himself as the frontrunner for NBA Feet champion this season thanks to a healthy rotation of Foamposites, Hyperposite PEs, and plenty more – a certain out-of-nowhere story in a league dominated by bonafide sneaker fanatics like DeMar DeRozan, Monta Ellis, Nate Robinson, Nick Young, and more. We hope Rondo has a speedy recovery, so until he makes it back to the hardwood, check out this season recap of Rondo’s best hits and let us know if he should be considered for our end-of-the-season NBA Feet awards despite being active for half a season.
