Happy Birthday Russell Westbrook! OKC’s very own and Jordan Brand’s finest brand representative Russell Westbrook has a game a lot like his personal style: risk-taking and head-turning. And while the NBA season is still young, there’s been a lot to look forward to – particularly since the superstar guard made an unforeseen early arrival from his season-ending injury an entire four to six weeks earlier than expected. In honor of Number Zero’s birthday festivities, we’ve decided to highlight some of his best moments under the Jumpman logo since the moment the partnership was made official back in October of 2012 to his heroic return earlier this month.
Whether it was the introduction of his Air Jordan III “Thunder” PE during the high-profile game against the Lakers or his mismatching Air Jordan XX8s at last year’s All-Star Game, Russell’s daring style tastes have fit right in with the Jumpman brand. It’s quite clear that Westbrook will continue to carry Jordan signatures on-court for now with his bonafide elite status in the league, which means that there’s a lot in store in regards to his on-feet selections (and off-the-court fashion options). Continue one below to get a full rundown of Russell Westbrook’s key Jordan Brand moments and let us know which pair that he’s worn in his past year has been your favorite.
Shoe: Jordan Super.Fly
Moment: Russell wears his first Jordan Brand sneaker on-court with the original Jordan Super.Fly (which we’d see on-feet quite a bit for Rus during the first half of last season).
Shoe: Air Jordan X “Stealth”
Moment: Nate Robinson wasn’t the only player on court wearing Jordan retro heat that game, as Westbrook laced up a pair of his first Air Jordan Retros on court in the form of the Air Jordan X “Stealth” while facing off against MJ’s former team.
Shoe: Air Jordan XII “Obsidian”
Moment: Following the X, the Thunder debuted their vintage-inspired alternate threads at home against the Pistons and Rus laced up the perfect shoe to match – the Air Jordan XII “Obsidian” in their home win.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 Black/Flash Lime
Moment: The Air Jordan XX8 made its debut on the feet of the Thunder guard when they headed to Brooklyn to face the new-look Nets. Even though the new-age colorway of black and flash lime didn’t necessarily match the OKC-uniforms, Westbrook definitely turned heads in the silhouette as the Thunder beat the Nets by 5.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 “Blue Camo”
Moment: What better way to celebrate Christmas than with a brand new pair of Air Jordans? While the Thunder and Number Zero probably would’ve rather had a win against the Heat in a rematch of the NBA Finals, Russell broke out the Air Jordan XX8 “Blue Camo” in the holiday classic against King James and co.
Shoe: Air Jordan III “Thunder PE”
Moment: The Thunder improved to 28-8 with a win over Kobe in Hollywood as Russell Westbrook laced up a pair of his very own Air Jordan IIIs in a Thunder colorway that brought a ton of attention (almost as much as his near tripple double of 27-10-7).
Shoe: Air Jordan III “Black Flip”
Moment: If one Los Angeles team got a Retro treatment, then it was only fair that Chris Paul’s squad got to look at Westbrook’s Air Jordan III “Black Flip” in another Thunder win. Are we seeing a theme that Westbrook’s best kicks usually result in a big win?
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 “Thunder” PE
Moment: Similar to Christmas, a holiday couldn’t bring a win for the Thunder as the Heat rolled into town on Valentines Day and spoiled things, but Russell did manage to wear a brand new Air Jordan XX8 “Thunder” PE that was enough to steal any sneakerhead’s heart.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 – Black/Orange PE
Moment: Another tough loss had the Thunder in a three-game skin thanks to former teammate James Harden’s best efforts as the Rockets topped OKC. Even with the three point loss, Rus still won the footwear battle as he wore a player exclusive of his Air Jordan XX8 in a menacing black and orange scheme.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 “Green Camo”/ Air Jordan XX8 “Blue Camo”/ Air Jordan XX8 “Red Camo”
Moment: Number Zero made it to his second straight All-Star game, but this year would be his first under the Jordan Brand imprint. Unable to decide which pair of the Air Jordan XX8 to rock, the Thunder guard wore the Air Jordan XX8 “Green Camo” in the first half, then zipped up one “Blue Camo” and one “Red Camo” in a mismatched look for the second.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 – White/Black PE
Moment: Revenge is a dish best served while wearing a cold pair of kicks as Russell Westbrook and company defeated James Harden’s Rockets and he did so wearing an all white PE of the Air Jordan XX8 matching KD for points with 29.
Shoe: Air Jordan XX8 SE “Thunder” PE
Moment: Expected to miss the first 4-6 weeks of the season, Russell Westbrook surprised nearly everybody when he returned after just the first two games, and he did so wearing a pair of the Air Jordan XX8 SE “Thunder” PE. Oh, and he dropped 21 points and dished 7 assists in the win, because why not?
