Nike Brings Back the Original Free Running Shoe

Nike Free Brings Back Original Free Shoes 01

In honor of the tenth anniversary of Nike Free, the Swoosh introduces two new models in the Nike Free Breathe and Nike Free OG aimed at not just the running-minded but at the casual lifestyle market as well. Each pair takes inspiration from a natural running motion with the Nike Free Breathe aimed to give the wearer a barefoot feel thanks to the double sided mesh allowing air to flow through the sneaker. The Nike Free OG sticks to the roots, grabbing inspiration from the Nike Free 5.0 with an updated NSW outsole for a moden aesthetic. What do you think of each pair? Debuted in 2004, the Nike Free 5.0 introduced the concept of natural motion to Nike Footwear design. To celebrate 10 years of Nike Free, Nike Sportswear uses the technology of today to improve classics and introduces two new models: the Nike Free Breathe and Nike Free OG. Constructed with a performance approach to lifestyle design, both models build on the natural motion ethos by honoring the classic aesthetic of the original and allowing the foot to feel freer than ever with supreme breathability.

Nike Free Breathe

Inspired by runners training barefoot on grass, the Free Breathe expands on the barefoot concept by improving breathability. The deconstructed, double-sided mesh upper allows air to rush through the shoe for a barefoot-like sensation. With its unstructured breathable upper, the Nike Free Breathe is suited for sockless wear in the midst of sweltering summers. The Free Breathe is also updated with the same traditional tongue and Nike Sportswear-specific outsole that is also found on the Free OG. In 2004, the Nike Free 5.0 changed how footwear moved and in 2014, the Nike Free Breathe will change how footwear feels.

Nike Free OG

Remembering the first born of the Nike Free line — the Nike Free 5.0 — the Nike Free OG replicates its silhouette and provides updates for a modern look and feel. A traditional tongue replaces the original bootie for a wider range of fit and increased comfort, while an updated Nike Free outsole specific to Nike Sportswear lends a contemporary, sleek aesthetic. The original synthetic suede, perforated upper and dynamic heel pocket are carried over, completing the 10-year celebration of Nike Free.

The Nike Free Breathe and Nike Free OG will be available at Nike.com and globally at select Nike Sportswear retailers beginning April 1.
