The classic Nike ACG line has been enjoying a fruitful resurgence as of late. With the demand for all things ’90s still as high as ever, their rugged outdoor-ready selection of gear and shoes like the Dog Mountain and Ruckle Ridge fits in perfectly with the current cultural climate. Now one of the Swoosh Brand’s most-loved new shoes of the year is set to receive a retro-style ACG makeover, as the Air Max 270 is being transformed into a brand-new shoe: the Air Max 270 Bowfin.
The 270’s standard lightweight mesh upper is traded out for a paneled look as the Bowfin’s upper boasts a combination of mesh, nylon, and leather underlays/overlays for a paneled aesthetic. Although the multiple panels are certainly noticeable, the shoe’s most striking feature are the patterned straps — a very mid ’90s ACG style embellishment— that reach all the way from the midsole to the throat, serving a dual purpose as both adornments and lace loops. For branding, a bold orange Nike tag appears on the tongue and a small swoosh adorns the lateral forefoot. The midsole features a two-piece white and black look with further retro detailing, and the heel’s Air Max unit offers a slightly shortened look on the 270’s standard large bubble. The retro futuristic shoe is then completed by an outsole with aggressive tread, perfect for any off-road adventures. No official release date for the Bowfin has been announced yet, but look for them to drop on Nike.com sometime this fall, enjoy a full set of official images below, and be sure to stay tuned to our Sneaker Release Dates page for further updates.
