First Look At The Nike Adapt BB 2.0

First Look At The Nike Adapt BB 2.0

Among Nike’s most innovative achievements in footwear was born out of a crazy movie prop. That would be the Adaptive Fit mechanism, a hands-free lacing system that was inspired by the famed “power laces” of the Nike Mag from Back To The Future II. Nike spent decades on R&D to create a real-life version of Marty McFly’s high-tops, but ensured that the findings would be used practically in everyday footwear. Thus spawned the HyperAdapt for training, the Adapt Huarache for lifestyle/casual wear, and the Adapt BB for performance basketball use – the final of the three debuting in January of 2019.

Today, we get a first look at what may be the sequel to that groundbreaking sneaker – the Adapt BB 2.0. The shoes feature the exposed cables of the Adaptive Fit system, with analog buttons on the midsole for tightening/loosening. The design of the sneaker is wildly different from the first Adapt BB as it makes use of an exterior shroud to gently hide the mechanism, an exterior molded heel, a mesh layer at the toe, pull-tabs, and more. Additionally, the shoe makes use of Zoom cushioning at the Forefoot (the Adapt BB was full foam). A release date is not yet known, but a debut at the upcoming All-Star Weekend in Chicago is a possibility.

Updated January 21st, 2020: The Nike Adapt BB 2.0 releases on February 16th for $400.
