As confirmed cases of COVID-19 crossed the one million mark, several players in the sneaker space re-established some degree of normalcy by confirming release dates and unveiling new products.
Though New Balance and Vans delivered looks at upcoming collaborations with Stray Rats and BILLY’S TOKYO, respectively, their efforts to battle the current global health crisis took precedence. Embodying an “all hands on deck” spirit, the Boston-based institution is partnering with local medical facilities as they seek to make up to 100,000 FDA-compliant face masks per week. Leveraging its existing customization platform, the “Off The Wall” brand launched “Foot The Bill.” Under this initiative, 80 small, independent skate shops, restaurants and other community-driven businesses across the world will each create 500 purchasable custom Vans. Net proceeds of these Classic Slip-Ons and Eras will go directly to the businesses whom Vans considers extended family.
As NIKE, Inc. continues to offer relief to those affected by the aforementioned pandemic, it’s confirmed long-anticipated releases under the Air Jordan and Nike Basketball lines. On the former end, the Jordan 4 “Metallic Pack” was officially announced after being teased by DJ Khaled on Instagram. Pairs like the Jordan 1 Court Purple and Jordan 5 Fire Red were confirmed, while the Jordan 11 Low Concord Sketch was unveiled for the first time. Similarly, five story-driven follow-ups to the KD 13 were shown ahead of the silhouette’s launch. An unofficial look at the Zoom Freak 2, Giannis Antetokounmpo‘s second signature sneaker, also surfaced.
Elsewhere, adidas Yeezy and ASICS revealed new takes of their respective, beloved Yeezy 350 and GEL-Lyte III. Both silhouettes proffered neutral palettes, with the latter’s paying homage to the “Making Of Things” regarded so highly in Japanese culture.
For all that and much (much) more, check out our top seventeen headlines from March 28th to April 3rd here ahead.
