Since its inception amid the rise of the Bay Area’s counterculture in the 1960s, the Grateful Dead has sold over 30 million records, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and influenced countless musicians. Come July 24th, “Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration” will join the band’s laundry list of achievements.

Based on the colorful characters on the back cover of the album History of the Grateful Dead, Volume 1 (Bear’s Choice) (1973), this “Opti Yellow/Blue Fury” pair is just one of three Grateful Dead Dunks launching this month. Unlike adjacent “Bright Ceramic” and “Green Spark” versions, however, the yellow Grateful Dead Nike SB Dunk Low will launch both at skate shops and on the Nike SNKRS platform.

Fuzzy, faux fur and hairy suede take the place of leather on this iteration of Nike SB‘s first silhouette; both are clad in shades of “Opti Yellow”, with the former sporting the brightest tone. Laces and tongues follow suit, but the latter – which sets the stage for the pair’s respective Grateful Dead Bear – also features “Blue Fury” flair. Elsewhere, serrated profile Swooshes, “nike” text on the heel, and skateboarding-specific outsoles further indulge in the stark blue contrast. As with the two other Grateful Dead Nike Dunks, this yellow pair boasts all five dancing bears on the sockliner, as well as a stash pocket behind the tongue.
