But through the family that survives him, his undying fans, and his long-running series of Nike signatures, the Black Mamba’s legacy is sure to live on for many, many generations to come. As part of their on-going efforts to honor his life, Nike is preparing to launch “Mamba Week,” a days’ long span of celebratory product that delivers the Kobe 5 Protro in a number of ways. Among collaborations with UNDEFEATED and more, expect to see the Lakers colored “5x Champ” colorway in both adults and — as revealed more recently — GS sizes.
Thankfully made for a much larger audience, the kids pair takes the same beloved design and sizes it down to the grade school run. Everything from the silhouette’s architecture to its striking Lakers themes is translated near perfectly, posed as an identical though more accessible complement to the main attraction. Purple shades dress the upper’s textured patent leather, while painted on decals are laid atop in matted black with bright gold outline. The Swoosh along the profile mirrors the very same execution, while the heel prefers an ornate textile supported above with a Kobe signature marked TPU counter. Elsewhere, the athlete’s logo appears in metallic along the tongue, pronounced as it hides behind it an insole and liner print of vibrant LA graphics.
Grab a close-up look at the GS option here and sit tight as it’s likely to release alongside the adult size come August 24th. Also, it’s likely the other colorways will appear in GS as well.
