Although NIKE, Inc. has dominated the sports of basketball, soccer, tennis and more throughout its existence, the Oregon-based conglomerate has always displayed a special affinity towards running. Thus, some of its most important innovation has come from its obsession with pushing the boundaries of what runners can do in the space.

Recently, the company unveiled the Nike Air Max Flyknit Racer via official images. The brand hasn’t acknowledged the model’s existence, but the shoe’s mere existence demonstrates Nike’s fascination with not only running as a sport, but the innovation it’s inspired. The pair, which blends the highly-lauded Flyknit Racer‘s upper with the straightforward cushioning of the Air Max Pre-Day, is the perfect balance between old and new. Despite the tried-and-proven Flyknit technology being a “newer” one, Air Max solutions have been the Swoosh’s “bread-and-butter” since 1987. Both design approaches have experienced success at competitive levels of running, and while the Air Max Flyknit Racer may not be intended to perform at the Boston Marathon, it further proves how dominant the Oregon-headquartered brand is in creating sportswear. The sneaker’s debut style is likely to be the “Oreo”-dubbed “Black” and “White” one that also helped introduce the Flyknit Racer to the world back in 2013. Multi-colored takes are likely to appear on the hybrid silhouette, which should help the “new” design appeal to the masses. Only time will tell.

No firm launch details have been disclosed by the North American company, but that’s likely to change before summer ends. In the meantime, enjoy official images of the shoes ahead.
