To celebrate Transformers: The Last Knight, Jordan Brand gifted Mark Wahlberg an exclusive style of the Air Jordan 5 in 2017. While rare in its own right, the pair was gifted to select members of the Jumpman family – including DJ Khaled. What’s rarer, however, is a look-see sample of the “Transformers” shoes.

Reminiscent of the original “Black Metallic” AJ5, the alternate version was scrapped for a final product featuring patent leather. Less than five pairs were made of the “Transformers” Air Jordan sample, which places the commemorative retro amongst the rarest sneakers of all time.

Direct nods to the Transformers franchise are made on the glow-in-the-dark outsole and sock-liner. The remainder of the shoe resembles the reflective tongue-donning pair Michael Jordan wore in 1990. The number “84” is embroidered on the lateral heels, while midsoles are speckled with blue and red tones. Lastly, the look-see sample features a ballistic nylon upper, a much more understated design choice than the final version.

Enjoy a detailed look at the rare Jordan 5 ahead, and check out all upcoming Air Max releases when you’re done.
