2023 has been quite the year for the Air Max 1, as the silhouette headlined Air Max Day with its big bubble. And alongside delivering additional releases with the oversized Air Unit — four, to be exact — the Tinker Hatfield-designed icon will continue to expand upon its inline catalog, adding to the Swoosh’s newly-introduced “Athletic Department” collection.

In its colorway, the Nike Air Max 1 “Athletic Department” is quite the departure from its Dunk Low and Air Force 1-shaped counterparts. Whereas the latter two preferred bright, bold hits of red, this pair opts for more subtle touches of yellow, which only appear along the outsole, branding, and eyelets. The rest of the shoe is predominantly made up of neutral fixtures: black suedes and leathers are layered over top the mudguard and Swoosh, while grey and white paneling alternate across the rest of the upper.

As we await word of a release date, take a look at the upcoming Nike Air Max 1 “Athletic Department” via the leaked imagery ahead.

In other news, Pusha T recently unveiled his adidas Supernova 7 Thorn at Coachella.
