Nike Basketball in the 1980s has firmly translated into strong lifestyle footwear trends in the modern day. The Air Force 1, Dunk, and Air Jordan 1 are just the top layer of how that epic decade shaped the future of sneaker culture, which is why the Swoosh regularly returns to the well for its next great casual-wear hit. This Holiday season, Nike is set to re-issue another one of its iconic basketball models made famous by enlarged branding at the heel. The shoe? None other than the Big Nike.
Appearing in Low, Mid, and High from 1984 and on, the Big Nike series was, like the Dunk, a shoe made for hoopers on both the collegiate and pro levels. You may remember Bol Bol’s father Manute wear them in an unforgettable print ad of the time, but the Big Nike was a regular in the competitive hoops circuit.
We can confirm that Nike is bringing back the Big Nike Low in four clean-cut colorways of Black/White, White/Midnight Navy, White/Wolf Grey, and White/Gym Red for the first time since 2016. Images of the footwear haven’t arrived yet (the most recent retro drop is pictured above), but they’re likely a true-to-the-OG offering with hopes of being woven into the everyday-essential sneaker rotation. And at the expected MSRP of $80 we can see these make that transition easily.
Stay tuned for updates and we’ll bring you first looks when they arrive.
