Fans of colorful early 2000s footwear have it good in 2024, particularly when it comes to new and upcoming New Balance deliveries. The Boston brand touched down with a Bapesta-like selection of New Balance 550s in early April and now continues its patent leather embrace through a fresh variety of New Balance 580s for later this month.
While recent years have seen inline New Balance 580s wear contemporary looks drawn from the brand’s core palette of greys and blues, the “Patent Pack” re-injects eccentric flair seen on past collaborations with Stüssy, Mad Hectic, and more recently Palace. The delivery features three colorways and gets its unofficial namesake from its logo and heel treatments, both of which feature shiny patent leather consistently across the trio.
A “Magnet/Purple” colorway shares a palette with the Levi’s New Balance 580 that dropped last year, while “Olive/Pink” and “Yellow/Teal” applications scream 2000s design language with relentless color swaps throughout. On top of a shared use of patent leather, each pair features nubuck overlays at the quarter and forefoot, topped off by multi-colored laces.
