Following up on a theme explored by the 576 a couple of years back, two fresh New Balance 577 colorways have glossy elements that on most sneakers you could reasonably guess to be patent leather. But here’s where the reference to those ‘Lake District’ 576s comes in, as this shiny stuff is revealed to be a waterproof boot and coat (as in the Mackintosh, this pack’s namesake) material the likes of which citizens of this perpetually rainy area of England are no doubt familiar. The number of New Bals that get their shine from something other than Scotchlite are few and far between, which begs the question: are these possibly the best glossy NBs yet?
