Nike’s begun an onslaught of new programs, completely innovating both their retail space and current offerings with items like the customizable Noise Cancelling Collection and the innovative ISPA line-up. Adding to this upward trajectory is their newest arrangement, the NYC Editions, which gives local creatives access to expressing their own vision on top of some of the Beaverton brand’s classic silhouettes. Tapping into the Harlem-born entertainer and athlete Sheck Wes, the release ushers in a bicoastal flair to both the Air Max 95 and the Blazer Mid.
Being split between the bustling city of New York and the more laid back landscapes of LA, Wes found a shared love for basketball, nodding to that sports-centric commonality with two collaborative colorways. The Blazer Mid opts for a subtle base of black suede with white overlays while implementing an overall split motif that harkens back to the creative’s nomadic lifestyle. Along the heel tab, the model foregoes typical Nike branding for an “NY” appliqué on the left foot and an “LA” one on the right; both the laces and outsole bear the Knicks and Lakers colors, respectively, elevating the city connection that much more. The Air Max 95 follows suit with a similar color treatment though more subtle in its execution with the lack of any city-specific iconography, leaving the lace loops, laces, and Air Max logo to do the job in the signature tones. Both footwear and the accompanying apparel will be available November 16th at Nike and select retailers.
