Next March marks the 30th anniversary of Men Without Hats’ hit single ‘The Safety Dance’, and Nike Sportswear wants to ensure that any attempt to celebrate the occasion can be done both with comfort and avant garde style. The Nike Footscape Free is something like the modern equivalent of the wacky asymmetry that typified 1980s new wave movement, its distinct eyelet configuration now taken up a notch by a barefoot-mimicking Free sole. The overall look is even sleeker and more futuristic than the Air Footscape, a model still considered to this day to be one of the most ahead-of-its-time designs ever issued.
