It first appeared during the peak of summer when boots weren’t suitable and a whole bunch of other new designs made their first appearance, so the new Three Stripes offroad model based on their beloved ZX 500 runner slipped under the radar. But now that we’re in the middle of winter, it’s time to give the adidas Originals ZX TR Mid another look. These first two colorways pay homage to trail/hiking aesthetics more than any kind of self-reference, and you can see both up close before you grab them at select adidas Originals accounts.

Three Stripes continues to widen its selection of rugged boot options with a new trail variation on a classic runner that gave birth to one of the brand’s best-loved series. The adidas ZX TR Mid starts with 1984′s ZX 500 and stretches the upper, moving the plastic eyelets from middle to top position. Little changes like these, the heel pull tab and a beefy sole blur the lines enough to fool casual fans into thinking this is just the latest in a growing collection of dope adidas boots, but what about the hardcore Trefoil devotees among us?
