New Balance ML71 “1300JP Inspired”

Before New Balance went back in time to reissue the original 1982 version of the 990 complete with Vibram outsole, a similar treatment was created for what’s likely the most popular NB silo in Japan.  The 1300JP remains a legend for its limited numbers and super-premium construction, but unlike the ‘Steel Blue 1300CLs, the JPs haven’t been on a five year retro cycle.  Applying the lighter grey/blue signature look to the New Balance ML71 is sure to create new fans for the Minimus series low-profile runner.  The ML71 features a Vibram bottom by default, so the branding along with colorway and materials make for a strong callback to the Japan 1300s.  Let us know what you think after seeing more photos on the other side and stick with Sneaker News to see if these make it Stateside.

New Balance “Greige Collection”

Aside from their popular white leather styles affectionately known as ‘dad shoe’ defaults, New Balance is best known for applying grey suede and mesh to their no-nonsense high-comfort runners.  We see a shift to a different neutral tone on this quartet from NB Japan, and though its pack name might have you imagining the shared versatility of grey and beige, that name is actually a reference to a totally undyed and unbleached cloth.  The New Balance ‘Greige’ collection brings together the familiar New Balance 574 with 1400s, ML71 trainers and H710 boots in a sandy brown whose tonal appeal is intended to reflect the raw yet refined untreated look that’s become so popular in a variety of design disciplines of late.  Have a closer look after the jump, let us know what you think of this new neutral style and stick with Sneaker News to see if they ever make it stateside.  via Espionage

Nike Free gets a ton of attention in the ‘barefoot’ market, and though they beat Vibram’s FiveFingers to market by a few months, the latter’s ‘naked’ design was invented quite a bit earlier.  Robert Fliri came up with the idea for this natural-as-can-be shoe design back all the way back in 1999, and in the years since the FiveFingers hit retailers in 2005, they’ve become something of a default with the cutting-edge fitness crowd.  Vibram’s also known for licensing their superb insole cushions to other brands, but this new release from America’s running specialists marks the first time their flexible technology will find its home under another brand name.  The New Balance ML71 introduces a unique flexible podular sole as part of NB’s Minimus collection, and this rasta-fied combination of suede, mesh and leather is sure to show up at your local CrossFit box as soon as they hit US retailers.  Click through to see more angles on this ‘Rasta’ ML71 and stick with Sneaker News for word on their availability.  via ST
