It’s all or nothing when it comes to the UNDFTD x Puma partnership, which shortly after releasing double-digit colorways earlier in the year, left us with two previews over five months ago, then went dead silent. Now all of a sudden, we’re being treated to six new pairs all on the same day, as joining the perforated ‘Gametime’ quintet we showed you Wednesday is another pair that serves as the ostentatious foil to those subtle suede gems. This 24K Gametime Clyde is a cross between the totally-perfed lowtop look and the Puma Mids Undefeated gilded back in 2009, and given that the only pair of those available at the moment on eBay sits just a penny under four-figures (free shipping, natch), it’s safe to say you’ll want to get these early on Friday, and they’re only available at UNDFTD.

There’s a different series of capital letters tied to this new pack of Clydes from Puma, but DQM deserves at least a respectful nod here. The UNDFTD x Puma Clyde ‘Gametime’ pack brings together five of the iconic Formstriped lowtops in monochromatic suedes, the base layer of which is perforated, which particularly on the blue and purple editions, brings to mind images of the Tier Zero Dunks Dave’s Quality Meat crafted for Nike Sportswear just over four years back. What that should tell you is that single-colored suede (perfed or not) is every bit as timeless as these old school basketball silhouettes, and you’ll be able to get your hands on the latest UNDFTD Clydes on Black Friday.

It seems like every time we see a new iteration of the ongoing UNDFTD x Puma project the team up pushes the boundaries of typical material selection just a bit more. They’ve already established themselves with unlimited suede versions, but recently we’ve seen snakeskin, ballistic nylon, and a gaudy gold pair shaking things up. Giving them perhaps the most contemporary look we’ve seen yet is the neoprene equipped pair that just popped up at Bread and Butter Berlin, with a sort of glowing yellow colorway that doesn’t put it too far off from the palette of current runners. At what point along the way does an extended collaboration become a full-on merger? We’ve come to expect ongoing team efforts from individual designers in concert with sneaker brands (think adidas Originals by Originals), but the connection between West Coast streetwear beheamoths UNDFTD and Puma has gone beyond any co-branded efforts on record. Most recent high profile Puma Clydes have carried the Five Strikes logo, something of a mathematical necessity when you consider that this is now the tenth pack of UNDFTD Clydes in under a year. This new set goes with pastel ballistic nylon uppers, tonal suede overlays and white leather Formstripes, a formula slightly altered on the RS hightop that uses a grey or purple stripe depending on the rest of its body. Just in case you were wondering if all the new Clydes came with UNDFTD cobranding these days, Puma’s back with a new variation to keep this 1970s classic model fresh. The Puma Clyde Deconstructed is the latest in a long line of old school kicks that’ve been hollowed out for casual purposes. They stay true to the vintage simplicity of two shades of suede, but the slightly sleeker shape including a subtly slimmed sole means we’ve never seen anything quite like these before. Have we ever seen a leading boutique team up with a sneaker manufacturer to release this many colorways of a single shoe in just over a year?! This latest set marks nine (9!) different packs of UNDFTD x Puma Clyde collaborations since last April’s debut of the ‘Stripe-Off’ Collection, and while it’s similar to that first drop, these come with one key difference. These new ‘Stripe Off’ Clydes by Undefeated comes in three new muted suede colorways that sort of scream ‘autumn’, but they’re equipped for extended daylight thanks to a reflective 3M heel stripe that echoes the all-3M promo pair that Foot Patrol was able to secure in a sample size. Those won’t be selling at retail, but a tiny run of the Clydes sees 12 pairs per color available now if you act fast.

Walt Frazier did lead the New York Knicks to their only two NBA Championsihps, but he was far from unbeaten in his Hall of Fame career. But Clyde’s classic Puma signature sneakers are most certainly Undefeated, as this latest collection of UNDFTD x Puma Clydes marks eight packs in the past ten months. The latest trio goes with leather uppers and contrasting snakeskin Formstripes plus white soles, the kind of simple yet expressive appeal that’s kept these lowtops in style for nearly four decades. Do you like your Formstripes in a contrasting color, or would tonal suede better satisfy your preferences? If the answer happens to be the latter, you’re gonna love the next set of Puma Clyde Script releases, a trio that reprises the same basic colorways we saw on last summer’s colorways but opts to keep the contrasts to the white sole and the newly added toecap (hence the ‘TC’).
