Atlanta’s own Standard made the most of Saturday’s release of the delicious new pink/black Nike Air Yeezy. With campers setting up temporary residence for up to five days prior outside the Peachtree location, the Standard folks added some meat to the event; literally. They invited the folks who they’d seen day after day to come inside and enjoy a nice breakfast, complete with an Air Yeezy desert. Despite the fact that beautiful weather of late made the wait a bit easier, this is easily one of the friendlier and more creative ways to commemorate the release that we’ve seen. Hype is definitely killing the game and this whole “flipping” thing is deading it to the highest level. People are buying sneakers that are not their sizes just so they can resell them. It’s heart broken what i see is going with Nike. What happened to the days when you can go to foot locker and buy the sneakers you wanted. I like the Yeezy, but what people who love sneakers are going through to get them is overwhelming. I am getting discourage to continue to buy Nike all together because of this shit. I witnessed kids 4-foot tall who wear sizes 8.5 or 9 buying zize 12 Yeezy’s and killed my chance of getting a pair this past weekend. I think i am just going buy High End sneaker brands only because Barneys will have the one that i want and my size too. This whole culture that Nike have been building around “exclusive” sneakers for the past 7 years is bullshit. If Nike want to diversify their target audiences by sending certain sneakers at a reasonable amount to High End stores is perfectly find. That way those who realy wants them are garanteed a pair as oppose to luntics who are so overly hyped and want to “flip” them because they beleiving they are making a profit. All you “flippers” are stupid and ignorant motherfuckers. 5 days or more of camping out just to make an extra $300 and selling through aco-signment base. Last But it’s not cool having people risking their lives for a sneaker.

I do feel napoleon on the fact that nike is wrong for just dropping exclusive sneakers in NY & LA most of the times and just like one spot in each state if that. Resellers do help those from places that don’t get the drops though even though they rape em with some of the prices. I wish it could be like back in the early 90’s when you can just walk in a footlocker at cop a pair of J’s without all the camping out stuff, but i don’t see anything changing soon so it is what it is main. Just cop other brands if you don’t like it I guess.

No brand will surpass Nike. Nike is Nike because it is Nike. If you can’t understand that then enroll in college and learn how to use your brain instead of talking about the benefits of working 80 hours a week at a minimum wage job. Nike has history and the best technology. All these new sneaker brands are building their name by copying Nike. There wouldn’t be any new brands if Nike didn’t make shoes what they are today.

If you are paying yourself hourly camping out and selling the shoe for a few hundreds more meaning that you are technically working for free. And free work equals slavery. Lets say you spent $50 or less for food that week you camped out. So add that on top of what you spent on the sneaker which gives you a total of $350.00 or a little bit less. Thus far you have a total cost of $350. A Profit is Revenue minus The Total Cost. Your Revenue at this point is the $300 you are hoping to be bringing in once put it on eBay. don’t forget that you did spend $350 as your Total Cost. $300 (Revenue) minus $350 (total cost) equals -50. You actually made a lost. The only smart individual that benefits from this is the person that buys it from you on Ebay or through a co-signment base sneaker store because they did not struggle to get it and they also know that you did not make a profit off of it. You didn’t even make any money to buy the next one base on that math. those co-sgnment stores are just raping you guys so hard it’s incredible because they get a free inventory plus 30 or 40 percent of the sale. “Flippers” are all modern day slaves. Most of the comments I have read here are probably the most incoherent, grammatically incorrect and fatally flawed arguments I have ever witnessed. Most of you should spend more time reading books that merely “beasting” over shoes. This is probably why I goto law school, while there are definitely a few of you who actually camped out for these shoes. This is probably why whatever time, resources and enegry you invested – was truly not a waste at all (for obvious reasons). This is definitely why, sneakers are my hobby and not my life.
Now off I go, back to studying for my law exams.
Oh, and by the way, I am going to pick up my reserved pair of Air Yeezies at Nike Sportswear Hong Kong tomorrow.

The shoe game is about effort. If you want the shoe, put in effort to have enough money to pay for it, put in effort to camp out if necessary. No store I’ve ever gotten limited release shoes from will let you buy more than 1 pair for each person, meaning the “flippers” put in extra effort to go back to the end of the line for a second or third pair.

You got the formula right, but Revenue is the actual price that he’d sell it for on ebay… so either you are severely underestimating the market price of these (which at present is going for between 500-800 on ebay) or you just plugged his expected profit in as his revenue.
in all likely hood he’d make an economic profit.. but likely still lose out if you factor in opportunity costs like NOT WORKING… which of course is a bit lame.

To HBoog, the $300 is indeed the expected profit which is also the actual revenue they are getting after he/she puts it on Ebay in the price range of of 500-800. If they account their total cost and salary for waiting a whole week. The price they are selling them for doesn’t equal to any profit what so ever other than a lost. You couldn’t operate a business under these circumtances. They are only adding a few hundred of dollars more on top of what they paid for the shoe without thinking . Those few hundreds which in this case i put as $300. That number seemed quite fair. In actuality, they should sell them for thousands but no one would buy. Therefore, they have to settle for a few hundreds more. Which is nothing for someone who is accustom to buying expensive stuff. They’re the one that benefit from it and also the consignment stores because they get a free inventory plus a 30 to 40 percent of the sale (kind of like pimping). Nike is laughing at them because they think that they are making money. You have account everything when you are pricing a product. The Flippers sell their stuff pretty cheap given what they had to go through.

JD: in a proposition of peace, I agree that Nike is taking advantage of the sneaker community by not releasing shoes where they are desired and that limiting “must-have” sneakers is not scrupulous…but to attack the fabric of what essentially sowed the sneaker culture is a hypocritical critique.
I am currently a Design student who’s aspirations is to design shoes and bring the sneaker culture back to the collector. It comes down to the old mantra of changing the system from the inside. I apologize for my previous attacks on you personally and forgive you for yours, as our discourse is what creates and shapes the sneaker market.
