Sneaker Con NYC 2010 Recap

There’s no doubt that Sneaker Con 2010 was a complete success; Hundreds piled in the Mulberry St. Market to buy, trade, and admire some of the hottest, most exclusive, and most beloved kicks known to man. Considering Sneaker Con is the only even of its kind, participants came locked and loaded wearing their favorite pairs that had been set aside for grand occasions like this. Those in attendance were both subtle and obvious in their admiration; some went right up to the owner, giving him/her props, while others just gave the “head-nod”, which speaks just as many volumes.
In addition to the mass crowd that was in attendance, 27 vendors set up shop to get prime selling locations and tables to display their goodies and exclusives, like the Brand Jordan Look-See by Sneaker News. Others picked a spot on the main floor and placed their items neatly in front of them, while others hung their shoes around their necks and waved others in the air to grab attention. Certain pairs touched more than one hand, as they were traded over and over again as leverage for an even more expensive item. Sneaker Con NYC 2010 became more than a trade-show; with the live DJ music in the background and people yelling “Buy!”, “Sell!”, and “Trade!”, it developed into the stock-market of sneakers. If you want an idea of how everything went down, check out the pics. Although next time, you should come out to Sneaker Con NYC for a first-hand experience.

After the success of the first Sneaker Con NYC in 2009, the second garnered media attention both local and nationwide, as the New York Post, NBC, Time Out New York and G4′s “Attack Of The Show” came to get a glimpse of sneaker-head culture.

WOW… best post I seen in a very long time, so much heat under one roof!!!

  2. Shaun Says:

Yo u better believe I was in there on Saturday. That event was crazy. There was a lot of sneakerheads in there wearing a lot of heat. I sold a few things and picked up a few things. Overall, it was a very cool event. It was just as fun as it was last year. I actually saw some people there that I go to school with. I’m looking forward to it again. Great event. There’s even a picture of me in this post. HA HA.

  3. dsuave allday Says:

Fuck! Call the fireman, waaaayy too much heat in the building. Now that was a beautiful post. Wish i could’ve been there.

  4. KidCuddy Says:

Had a great time as well. I was shocked at how many seemingly little kids had incredibly rare and expensive kicks, both on and for sale. Seemed to be a lack of size 12s for sale. Didn’t pick up anything at the convention, but made my rounds elsewhere in Manhattan and grabbed 4 pairs. I look forward to the next one.

  5. IZZO Says:

In that one room………are people who understand me. Not missin that nex year. Many of the collections that were brought for sale right? Can anybody tell me the goin rate for some “Cool Grey” or “Concord” XI’s?

  6. NSBcollector Says:

Oh my lord. Why can’t that be brought to Minneapolis or Chicago at least. That post made me bust a nut instantly. All the fire.. (Drool)

  7. 5ivedawg Says:

WOOOOOW. grapes, beautiful foamosites (where’d those white/blue ones come from??) the maroon 5′s. breath taking.
Sidenote– the motorsport 6′s look better than the black/VARSITY RED ones (not the INFARED tho)

  8. the yG Says:

it was an exciting experience.. can’t wait to be there again next year.. saw some good heat..

  9. aMonsta? Says:

Good times. Lots of heat both for sale and on feet. I agree with kidcuddy. lack of bigger sizes. I saw hardly any 12′s or 13′s mostly sizes 9-11.The pair picked up was the doernbecher 6′s in my size.great deal too. The amount of young kids there spending cheddar on kicks makes me realize that this hobby of ours is growing to the next generation. First time at an event like this for me. I’m already checking for another though.. Monsta?

  10. mache custom kicks Says:

A well done event guys, great job. And KidCuddy as a size 12 I can’t agree with you more..Luckily I managed to find something in my size that well…I wasn’t even looking for. I was also amazed by all the kids! Like seriously it’s crazy that 13 year olds can afford some $500 kicks, I know I sure as hell couldn’t do that when I was their age. But hey if they’re getting that money legally more power to em….they should go buy some of my customs while they’re at it….lol.

  11. voterobformayor Says:

it was a great event, but i didn’t understand why it said “NO PHOTOS ALLOWED” no one was allowed to take pics except the blog writers i guess. regardless it was a great turn out, bigger and better then last years. i’ve noticed the tables are a mixture of sneaker boutiques and collectors. thats why you probably didnt see alot of larger sizes (12s) to be exact.

I met some good people at the Con, people from all over the tri-state area were in the building. I even met a some cats from Boston, one of them was a size 12, we wound up leaving the con and going on a search for size 12′s only for him. I took him over to flight club and he copped a couple pairs EASILY!

The other guy from Boston copped a pair of gray toe 13′s at the Con, for 100! we literally walked down the street to kix-clusive and he resold the same kicks for 210. He used the store credit to get a pair of dorenbachers 6s and he only had to pay a total of 160, when the store was selling them for 270! now that my friend is a hustla, Stay on your grind Ray-Man!

  12. truedon Says:

Yeah, lots of fun, I was saddened that there weren’t that many size 13 shoes available, but if you wear from size 9-11, you were in heaven!

  13. DJ Says:

Mache, did you sell any of your customs there? If not you should have your work is so sick…..On another note, I missed a dope event, but I’m not gonna miss it in the future…

  14. KidCuddy Says:

I gotta say, I didn’t try SUPER hard to find a pair of shoes. I just happened to notice an abundance of sizes 10-11. I also wasn’t interested in spending $200+ on some used shoes. Plenty of nice examples of some rare, hard to find kicks, just outta my price range.

Even when I was looking at the tables, most of the guys were more interested in talking about my jacket, than what they had for sale.

  15. hellrazah Says:

man jus hearing u guys says that i wanted 2 go bad but im glad i didnt cuz im a size 12 n i was gonna drive frm ohio but we had a pretty nice snow storm if it was summer i wuda went any way but damn wish i cuda ben there 4 da experiance if show up in da ny i need 2 knw whr 2 go dnt want no boot legs lol holla @ me

  17. GMIII Says:

  18. kamikaze Says:

  23. IZZO Says:

Yeah they’re real. Woulda been havoc in ther if sombody cam ewith “fakes”. R u kiddin??? gonna have to research the release tho…

  24. Victor Says:

sneaker news should do the same for every sneaker exhibition,Really nice though.

  25. aMonsta? Says:

I love how people are saying it was wack and there was a bunch of noobs. I saw alot more rare kicks then what are being displayed here in these pics. remember heads were there buying stuff too.I got asked about 50 times what i had in the box i was carrying. No need to show off ya know. i cam i purchased had a good time then left.. Shout out to Kixclusives down the street. those are some cool dudes.

Hellrazah, if you come to NY stay away from canal. Hotkickz in bronx is good for the new stuff and there are plenty of botiquue shops for the rarer released stuff. Monsta?

  26. B. Says:

My brother and I are the ones with the LeBrons on in the second pic on page 4. There was a LOT of heat in there…and I had some stuff in there for sale size 12-13 that no one was really trying to buy. IDK where you guys were…but I got some good trades soon as I walked in!

  27. hellrazah Says:

good lookin out monsta real talk might b out there come spring or summer

  28. Ugly Mike Says:

All the AJs, Nikes and Bapes….where are the adidas, Reeboks and New Balance?? Show some more love yo!

  29. Mrwadewilsonhimself Says:

Talkin about the new genstation of sneaker head, if my lil bro(18yrs old) was there he would of tore the roof off wit his shit easy.

I’m readin Boston was def in the building(Roxbury!!!), gettin our hustle on, that’s jus how bean cats do…. Get paper

And yes! The Carolina blue and white foamies are 100% real! And weren’t even exclusive when they came out way back when. Step ya game up ni66as. I actually think a sneaker shop in the hood(Alpha and Omegas ,down Dudley out here in Roxbury) possibly still have a pair that never sold.

But yea man the NYC ain’t the only place wit the fuego. Come to Boston and get ya shoppin in. Here a few spots u can google.
Alpha and Omega’s, Attic, Bodega, Concepts, Karmaloop, Expressions in downtown or on American legion highway, X squared, even the local Niketown, shit I could go on.

  30. Myles Says:

    I would have had a heart attack…
