Have you ever looked at a sneaker and thought, “What I wouldn’t do for a design that reaches beyond the utility of its construction?!” If so, you’re probably the kind of person who loves Jeremy Scott’s adidas Originals by Originals collaborations, and today another notable designer’s work with a major footwear brand pushes the footwear-as-art envelope a bit further. The newest Puma Urban Swift lowtops by Hussein Chalayan take his typically tonal approach to a new level with molded spikes reaching out from the heel among the subtlest impetuses for “Oh my god, look at those!” we’ve ever seen. This is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, but they make us wonder how long it’ll be before ‘sneaker sculptures’ get even more complex.
