For those of you who have become ‘real’ adults this year, 1990 will always be a special number. It’s been exactly twenty-one years since models like the Air Jordan V debuted, and for that reason, ’90 will stand out as a significant flip of the calendar. Nike Basketball was moving crafting quite a bit of heat back then, both the Force and Flight series in full swing with models like the Air Solo Flight and Air Force 5 stand-out candidates for a much-needed retro run. Looking at those V's just brings back memories of Will Smith wearing and dancing in the on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air . Nostalgia .
I had the Flight 90s. Difference between now and then is that back then Nike still used pretty decent materials in their shoes. There is absolutely NO comparison between today's retros and the originals. Nike cuts costs to make more money. Cheaper labor, cheaper materials, higher prices. And it controls the majority of blogs like this to make you all think the product is worth your money.

I used to have this catalog, I nearly wore it out looking at it so much. I loved getting these in the mail and looking at them as a kid. It's a shame shoes suck so badly now.

Man, flashback! I had the all white Air Flights. I still have the grapes even tho they are all crumbled. And I had the white/ fire reds. I still have the AJ V tear away pants in black and grape, I didn't see em in the catalog, When I get home Im gonna post a wdywt wearing my metallic V's with my OG tear away pants I just mentioned. has anyone here ever heard of inflation? $125 in 1990 is worth WAY more than $165 in 2011, hence the Vs have gotten LESS expensive. $125 in 1991 dollars is the same as $215.88 in 2011 dollars. do some research before you type.
yes that may be the case, but the cost/shoe for nike was higher because the materials were better and their places of production asked more for their work now every thing is BS cardboard "leather" which cost pennies compared to the actual leather that was once used, so with that said even at 125 in 90 you were gettin a hell of a lot more for your money than 155-160 in 2011

no offense to no one but back in those days jays were made for people to play ball in so the quality was much better granted people back then wore them for fashion and thats when nike change it cause no one really goes to ball in retros now example lebron has always had good quailty shoes like the 8s v1 were great because they want u to play ball in them so please stop about quailty buy the shoes or not

surely $125 would have been considered expensive back in 1990?can anyone else shed some light on inflation etc? agreed though that the quality would have been way better than today. all these shoes would have been performance driven in their design and construction. great catalogue and i would def buy one of each model in some colorway.
I had those black Jordan 5s and the black/white Air Solo Flights. These sneakers were sooo damn beautiful back in the days. Those Air Force Fives should be retroed man.

Ahhh the good old days. I was 6 in 90 watching ninja turtles lol. The prices and quality(sheds a tear) I hope the grapes don't retro no time soon. Sorry I just took my pair out for the 1st time the other day and it felt great! I just need a pair of those fire reds :(

Yessssssir these were the good old days back then the J's on my feet cost like $75 and the quality was way better then today. Todays young generation don't relize that there where other kicks then J's folks were copping.

The only way nike will ever use quality materials again is every single sneakerhead stops buying their product. Once they start losing millions of dollars we demand good quality for such a high price that would be a dream come true

When Nike still cared about putting out quality shoes...I feel for all the kids nowadays who have to put up with all Nike's cost cutting measures and never had the joy of lacing up a quality product. Pretty much all synthetic materials on their shoes now.
