“A lot of stuff goes in there and we stripped all that out.”

How else could you make a shoe from nothing but scraps from post-consumer plastics?  New Balance‘s Design Lead for Wellness, Drew Spieth spoke those words with regard to the brand’s newSKY design initiative that creates the materials for the upper of models like the New Balance Minimus out of used plastic bottles.  This new material isn’t like traditional fabrics so extraneous elements could be eliminated from the sleek, lightweight package, further reducing material usage.  Spieth concluded that “At the end of the day, it looks like an interesting shoe and also looks great on the foot,” and you can determine the former by clicking through to see more from newSKY and stick with Sneaker News for word on the US release dates.
