Supreme, that legendary institution of downtown skatewear in NYC, turns 20 years old this week. The shop has kept the anniversary fanfare to a relative minimum: they’ll be re-introducing the two tees that were available when they opened their doors back in 1994, but that’s it – there will be no blitz of hype anchored collabs, no special sneakers in sight, and no inkling that they’re all of a sudden going to start playing by the same rules that the rest of the industry does. We thought it fitting to give Supreme a bit more spotlight then that, and as a result they’re the focus of our latest Sneaker News NINE@NINE series.

DC Shoes Unilite Trainer

June 7th, 2012 by | 6 comments

dc unlite trainer summary DC Shoes Unilite Trainer

There’s a pretty big precedent for traditionally running focused companies to make the move over into the skate-shoe realm, but not so much the other way around. Recently breaking ground in that category was the Supra Owen, a sneaker followed up by stalwart of the skate shoe industry DC Shoes putting out the all new Unilite Trainer. The silhouette is, needless to say, unlike anything we’ve come to expect from the brand, far from the puffy pairs they consistently crank out for the wood pushers of the world. The Unilite Trainer has the tech specs to back up this foray onto the feet of runners, with moisture wicking technology, an Ortholite sockliner and a seamless mesh styled upper. Continue reading to check out the pairs that are available now and let us know what you think of the DC Shoes Unilite Trainer. If you like what you see then head over to the DC site now to grab a pair.

DSC 0033 570x381 DC LIFE Spring 2011 Footwear Collection

The newest silhouette from DC Shoes was recently teased by Montreal-based tastemaker Marcus Troy, and apparently the Studio was just the first of a series of new lifestyle-oriented models on the way.  Check out these two new silhouettes, each of which is quite inventive, especially when compared to many of the derivative designs offered by skate brands these days.  The DC District 4 midtops have a layered chukka eye-placket plus ornamental wings on the ankles, while the Reset lows add mesh side panels to their tonal upper/white soled designs.  Click through to see two new colorways of each and look for them at select DC LIFE retailers like Atlanta’s Standard.

leadskateshoes 570x367 Complexs 50 Greatest Skate Shoes

Were we forced to omit the Sneaker News Top 30 due to conflicting interests, we’d have to place at the top of the list of best sneaker lists.  The online edition of Marc Ecko’s flagship mag has done it again, this time compiling a compendium of the 50 Greatest Skate Shoes ever produced.  This inventory is an index of models as antique and obscure as the Vans Woodstock to modern classics like the Supra Skytop and Chad Muska’s own éS signature somewhere in between.  It’s quite a sight to notice how far skate sneaker aesthetics have come, from ’70s and ’80s basketball sneakers to tech-happy ’90s looks and back again.  As with any list, most of the fun is in checking out the results, vehemently disagreeing and then arguing with your homies about which ones you’d pick, so click through to see a few standouts and head over to Complex to see the list in its entirety.
