The Jordan Brand Classic 2013 festivities for Saturday centered around three separate games, each of which showcased young basketball talent from around the world. Kicking things off was the International Game, which pulled at a player pool of 15 and 16-year olds from around the world. Afterward was the Regional Game, a showcase of prep school talent from the greater New York area. And of course there was the main event-the Jordan Brand Classic National game, which was a riotous peformance featuring high-school all-stars like Tyler Ennis, Andrew Wiggins, Julius Randle, and Jabari Parker. Part of the equation Jordan Brand Classic 2013 is basketball, and the showcasing of young talent and future superstars. But another part of the equation, one just as crucial, is the goal of bringing together a mini-community of athletes and providing them with a once-in-a-lifetime experience crafted by the Jordan Brand. Leading up to the trio of games on Saturday, the kids bopped around NYC and discovered the heritage of the brand throughout the city, from a sit down event with Spike Lee and Sway out in Brooklyn to a trip to Gleason’s Gym for some boxing with Andre Ward.
Of course yet another aspect of the event is its star studded status, one that was particularly prevalent this year thanks to this year’s New York/Brooklyn locale. Countless athletes, rappers, and the like were spotted courtside (Amar’e Stoudemire, Carmelo Anthony, Victor Cruz, and Fabolous just to name a few). And then there was the Drake concert immediately following the final game which brought everybody out of their seats at the culmination of the evening. Georgetown has been getting plenty of love from the Ewing Athletics line, even getting their own colorway of the Ewing 33 Hi as a throwback to Patrick Ewing’s days at said school. What’s more, it looks like they will see an appearance of the greatest Hoya ever as Patrick Ewing will indeed be the guest of honor at a special re-release event at Palace5ive in DC. The event is in conjunction with the restock of the Ewing 33 Hi “Georgetown” and “Jamaica” releases, so be sure to head out to Palace5ive to pick up one of the restocked Ewings and to meet the legendary basketball icon on Sunday, April 21st at 2PM EST.

We continue or close monitoring of the awesome Sneakerness event circuit out in Europe as the traveling showcase of sneaker heat hits Amsterdam and opens its doors to one of its biggest crowds yet. As we’ve seen with previous Sneakerness recaps, the impressive layout of footwear from multiple brands and personal collectors is something of a marvel yet again, with the great atmosphere provided by the industrial setting in which Sneakerness Amsterdam took place. The Nike Air Max Reinvented series of displays continues its world tour, most recently touching down at Clot’s Juice Hong Kong location. This time around the sneakers were on display in a group of connected tubes, each of them illuminated to highlight the bubbly designs within. The tubes were also decorated on the outside with graphics and copy referring to the grand Air Max lineage. Last October, Sneaker News was invited to an exclusive event by Nike Skateboarding for the unveiling of the Nike Koston 2 paired with a keen exploration of the skate culture of New York City. Fast forward to late March and switch time zones to the Left Coast and we were once again to experience an incredible two-day extravaganza out in Los Angeles to celebrate the launch of Eric Koston’s second shoe and the latest installment in an unending string of impeccable Nike adverts – this one called “The Legend Grows”. As usual, Nike came correct with presentation and festivity as we participated in exclusive interviews with Koston and Nike designer Shawn Carboy and ended the experience with a big bash at Nike Skateboarding at Sixth & Mill.
