AIR JORDAN XII The Air Jordan XII is the 12th Air Jordan sneaker and released in 1996. It was designed by Tinker Hatfield and the design was inspired by the ‘Rising Sun’ of Japan. The most memorable Air Jordan XII is the ‘Flu Game’ Black/Red colorway, which Michael wore during the 1997 NBA Finals while having the flu.

A quick recap of one of the NBA’s greatest offseasons in history: in 2007, the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen for what would amount to be ten players in total (both active and in the form of draft picks), and immediately, the moving of the chesspieces worked. Boston won an NBA Title at season’s end, and both Ray and KG, both considered two of the best to never have won a ‘chip, were no longer part of that category and essentially made the final, definitive point in the case of Hall of Fame induction.
Sonics fans did not respond well to the trade, as Ray posted career highs in scoring that very season and would’ve been the perfect veteran to pair with Kevin Durant while allowing the rookie to mature as a player, but the trade clearly worked out in favor for both teams (but not for Sonics fans). This PE of the Air Jordan XII precedes the trade by several years, but it’s always a treat to look back at his PE stash because it is without question the most complete set out of any player in the league. More views of this White/Canyon Gold PE after the jump, so take a look and check out the listing from the.warehouse on eBay.

If you’re a fan of the Knicks or have an affinity to Orange and Blue without any territorial ties, May 2012 just might be the best month of sneaker releases of the year. Following this Saturday’s drop of the Air Jordan IV ‘Cavs’, the Air Jordan XII ‘Cool Grey’ will follow; it’s got an ‘alterate’ Knicks/Mets vibe and is rather similar to the Player Exclusive of the Jordan Melo M8 that Carmelo Anthony wore during games 3 and 4 of the Knicks/Heat series. If you plan on skipping out on the AJIV Cavs, the Cool Grey XII might be the perfect replacement as they are beginning to arrive right now at retailers. Stay tuned for the release next Saturday, May 19th, or cop ‘em now on eBay.

We’re smack in the middle of a mini-renaissance of AJ12 fashion, so here’s a look at another piece of Air Jordan XII heat following last night’s ‘Ray Allen’ PE feature; this unreleased sample features the early ’04 French Blue version but with a solid black outsole and Copper/Bronze detailing on the heel pull-tabs and on the outsole, an apparent tie-in to the Washington Wizards. These could quite possibly have been the original ‘French Blue’ version, but in light of Michael’s retirement from the Wizards by the end of the ’02-’03 season, a true Wizards colorway would’ve been a clear anachromism. What resulted was the French Blue/Varsity Red colorway, which featured a white heel-tab, definitive red accents on the outsole (particularly the visible carbon fiber plate on the outsole), and the silver ‘Jumpman’ at the midfoot. Do you think Jordan Brand should release some ‘Wizards’ colorways of Air Jordan Retros? Check out the gallery of this rare Air Jordan sample below and if you want to throw some bids on this deadstock pair, check out the auction from rapodoc on eBay.

Last week, Sneaker News gave you an informal introduction to the latest member of the Jordan Brand MLB roster – former MVP and Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins. He made his presence in our headlines known by wearing a sick Red/White Player Exclusive of the Air Jordan XII in cleat form, and he followed that up with a Grey/Red version once the Phillies went off on their road trip early last week. Will Rollins have more Air Jordan PEs on the way? Perhaps an ‘alternate’ pair of XIIs with more Royal Blue? Check out his PEs after the jump and we’ll keep you updated on more of Rollins’ on-field footwear! Photos: yahoo

As the summer release schedule continually grows more crowded, we’re reminded of an Air Jordan XII Retro that’s been waiting in the wings for over fifteen years. So even with all the ‘Gold Medal’ and otherwise Olympic attention of late, the ‘Obsidian’ Air Jordan 12 is awaited with equal anticipation, one of the increasingly rare never-retroed Jays and a design that’s really just too beautiful to keep locked up for too much longer. Grainy Obsidian and pebbled white leathers make for a spectacularly clean two-toned look and the select University Blue accents remind us that Jordan was doing the tonal thing long before it was a widespread trend. Yet another case of Tinker’s timeless design shining through on a supremely wearable colorway, the Obsidian Twelves are coming up in June and this Grade School edition gives us a closer look after the jump below. Jordan Brand’s got quite the product line ready for us this month, so let’s take a quick overview of what’s been updated for this month; beginning with the three Air Jordan Retro releases, JB’s got four new Jordan CP3.V colorways as well as two Melo M8s, three new Jordan Fly Wade 2 EV colorways, and two Playoff-derived Melo M8s. In addition to the basketball-driven models, a Flight Gold colorway of the Jordan Flight 23 Classic will hit stores as will two new Jordan SC-2 colorways. Check out the full review of Jordan Brand’s May 2012 footwear update and stay tuned as we will provide you a quick review of June release as well!

Add another to the slowly growing roster of Jordan Brand athletes on the diamond: former MVP and shortstop extraordinaire Jimmy Rollins has been rocking some heat on the bases this year, as we spotted him in a sick Red/White Player Exclusive of the Air Jordan XII fitted for the game. It’s built like a reverse color-blocked version of the original White/Varsity Red colorway (last seen in stores in 2009), with hints of royal blue to match the Phillies uniforms. With guys like C.C. Sabathia being one of the few MLBers wearing Air Jordan Retro cleats on the field, JB’s addition of Rollins to the mix certainly gives us more reason to pay attention to baseball as the NBA season will come to a close by June. More of Rollins’ PE below, so take a look and let us know what you think! Photos: yahoo

Is there a more perfect date than June 23rd for an Air Jordan Retro release? Coming just after the end of a gruelling school year, a late June drop also signals the end of the NBA season, and for Michael Jordan during 1996-97, that also meant the fifth of six championship rings. Coming up this June on ‘his’ day will be the only one of the five OG Air Jordan XII colorways MJ never wore, the Obsidian and white AJ12 whose French and University Blue accents remind us that tonal designs are timeless, even if the majority of sneaker releases only discovered this in recent years. We’ve been waiting fifteen years for this utterly timeless style to earn a retro release, and with some Korean shops already moving their stock, the June 23rd release date feels even closer. A detailed viewing courtesy of IST below, so take a look, and if you can’t wait the two months, cop ‘em now on eBay.
