nike doerbecher freestyle viii summary Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle VIII Collection

One could view the underlying message behind the Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle as “Look beyond the surface and see what’s underneath”. The six children chosen for this year’s Doernbecher Freestyle not only stared down the face of their obstacles, but conveyed their messages proudly in their sneakers; Daniel Blair, the designer behind the Air Max 95, says he’s “Just like everyone else.”, while Warang McManus defiantly turns her back on her disease and proudly states “Twice survived”.  Like any piece of treasured art hanging in a museum, each of the hand-selected colorways and details of the Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle VIII tells a personal tale; what makes the six sneakers shown here particularly special is that they all tell one of triumph and victory. Continue reading for a detailed look at all six installments of the Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle 2011 and let us know which of these ‘stories’ resonates with you, and look out for a release of the collection starting on November 5th.

Air Jordan IV Doernbecher GS

air jordan iv doernbecher gs 1 570x427 Air Jordan IV Doernbecher GS

Sneakerheads are psyched for the return of the Air Jordan IV in 2012, but before the OG Cements and Military Blues hit retailers next year, there’s a brand new Four in store for late ’11. The Air Jordan IV Doernbecher is part of the eighth collaboration between Nike and the Portland children’s hospital whose young artists came up with the designs for these ‘DB’ edition drops. Jordan Brand gets represented with this otherworldly take on a familiar design, one whose Spike Lee insignias mixed with a melange of laser cut arrows paired with a blacklit colorway has us picturing an alternate universe where MJ was the greatest breakdancer of all time. Add all this together with a Superman crest so real it must’ve been licensed from DC Comics, and you’ve got one of the most bizarre Air Jordan designs ever released; are you brave enough to wear them? Click through to see more angles and stick with Sneaker News for updates on these and all the Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle VIIIrelease dates. via Air-Randy
