Nike Air Max 1 EM “London”

The first colorway we saw after Nike Sportswear’s Engineered Mesh collection clarified the ‘EM’ designation we’d seen (a curious fact, given the LunarGlide+ 4 silently debuted the material about a month earlier), we’ve now got color information on the tonal red Nike Air Max 1 EM. These are comprised of a duo of Mahogany and Team Reds, and in these new images the speckled Grey Strata midsole really makes itself known. Subtly striped laces are a brilliant compliment to the mesh’s unique diamond patterns, further suggest these represent the perfect middle ground between the original construction and modern technical prowess, and make a fine addition to the EM City Pack as London, England’s contribution. Expect these in Q1 along with several other colorways, and check out more photos below so you can line up your spring 2013 purchase list.

We’ve seen several new sneaker models like the LunarGlide+ 4 and the recently unveiled Nike Kobe 8 use the all-new Engineered Mesh, but the high-tech material isn’t limited to the latest designs as the ’87-born Air Max 1 will feature a full EM upper in place of the classic sport mesh and suede. This Spring 2013, we can expect a colorway of White/University Red, which aside from the EM upper, red Air unit, and black outsole, is a clear tribute to the original version. Check out the extra angles below and hit up Titolo for a pre-order now.

OG Air Maxes again? Not quite. For 2013, Nike Sportswear will re-introduce the Nike Air Max 1 and 90 in their flagship original compositions with a rebuilt ‘EM’ upper (that’s Engineered Mesh for those who haven’t been following). It seems like an odd pairing to put together a re-engineered material fit for contemporary running models paired with suedes and leathers of the past, but it’s exactly that old-meets-new build that makes the Air Max EM releases worth checking out once they hit stores in Spring 2013. A nice multiple-view gallery awaits you below so take a look and let us know what your thoughts are on this ‘EM’ style of classic runners.

Prepare for Engineered Mesh to be an ongoing trend within the Air Max classics genre, because on top of the OG and new colorways of EM-built Air Maxes, there’s a ‘pack’ featuring the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95, and Air Max 97 coming our way. All four colorways feature a orange-to-yellow gradient effect on the Engineered Mesh upper to achieve the effect of a sunset, with black nubuck mudguards amounting to the contrast on the upper. Expect these to arrive during the Summer 2013 season, so check out all four after the jump and let us know what you think about the use of this contemporary Engineered Mesh on older models.

The Air Max 1 is a serious favorite among the Sneaker News staff, making each of our three Top 20 lists near the top of the heap. Nike seems to believe that the Air Max 1 is immortal, bringing it back in a slew of new forms over the last few years, like the underrated ‘Maxim’ build and for 2013, the Air Max 1 ‘EM’. EM stands for Engineered Mesh, which is used on this rebuilt AM1 to give it a more contemporary structure in terms of comfort and ventilation, but do you think this experiment is necessary? We’ve got a full shot just below so take a look and let us know what you think.

Nike Air Max 1 Engineered Mesh

Along with stylish VacTech versions of some of our favorite classic silhouettes, Nike Sportswear introduced their Hyperfuse hybrid models last summer.  Since then, FlyKnit technology has hit the scene with a variety of bold weaves and exclusive colorways; might this new Air Max 1 revision be the closest thing to a hybrid of these two upgrades?  The Nike Air Max 1 EM has a leather mudguard to add some style to the otherwise Engineered Mesh upper that promises a lightweight, breathable ride the likes of which we’ll also see on the venerable AM90 silhouette.  In fact, it looks like this tonal burgundy AM1EM is sitting right beside the ‘Infrared’ 90EMs in this preview, so stick with Sneaker News for all the NSW Engineered Mesh models and let us know what you think of this one after the jump below.  via AS
