History remembers 1980s fashion as being dominated by day-glo colors and outrageous styles of all sorts, but Nike didn’t make sneakers quite like this a quarter-century ago. A model like this new Nike Sky Force 88 Mid TXT is still an eye-grabber by today’s standards, but it might have caused a riot back in the day with this all-over tennis ball look. A colorblocking pattern that’s distinctly 2012 on this classic silhouette done in a shade that’s a perfect fit of both eras, this new Sky Force 88 should arrive in stores soon and is available early from ID4Shoes on eBay.

Who new the Nike Sky Force ’88 Mid could be such a sleek-looking shoe? Sneaker News previewed the Nike Sky Force ’88 Vintage ‘Suede Pack’ in our Nike Sportswear Fall 2011 preview, which consisted of a wide collection of upcoming NSW silhouettes. The Sky Force ’88 Mid, which made a sudden comeback in 2011, comes remastered in full white outsoles with the pre-yellowed ‘vintage’ treatment, paired acutely with tonal suede uppers in various colors, like the deep red and cool grey you see here. The only contrast on the upper comes in form of a white swoosh, lace eyelet, and Nike Force label on the tongue. The Nike Sky Force ’88 returned earlier this year in ‘Vintage’ form, but prepare yourself for a slew of new colorways in ‘Retro’ styling as well as Lifestyle motifs. From the Mids, we’ve got two team-based renditions, using a basic two-toned uppers in Royal/Black and Red/Black with silver trims, and another duo with sleeker tonal suede uppers with wool ankle collars. For the lows, you can expect two tonal suede version as well and another in grey black. Nike Sportswear’s got big plans for the Sky Force ’88, as the ‘Bulls vs. Knicks’ Pack and the Stussy collaborations are still set for a release sometime during 2011. Sneaker News showed you a dozen different Nike Sky Force ’88 Vintage colorways just before the turn of the year and now we’re finally starting to see the first models hit retail. This is one of three different white and red Sky Force 88s on tap, a pair that differs from the most similar of that trio by their use of a distinct piping along the eyelet wing, but like all of the rest of these upcoming releases, they share a pre-yellowed VNTG treatment on the midsoles.
