Historians will look back on MTV’s Pimp My Ride with favor, not just because of the hilarious Xzibit meta-meme it birthed, but because of the decidedly positive newspeak in its very title. ’Pimp’ has been thoroughly appropriated to mean ‘tricked out’, and in this particular case, we’re talking about a custom sneaker design crafted for an influential record exec. The Pimp My Kicks x New Balance 999 was crafted for RocNation’s Emery Jones with a ‘South Beach’ flavor in mind, and much like the upcoming LeBron 9 Elites by that name, these give the color scheme a new spin opting for a grey base upon which MIA’s famed pastels are placed. Check them out in greater detail along with the sick 1 of 1 laser-etched wooden box and let us know where these rank in the still-growing ‘South Beach’ neighborhood.

A message for you aspiring sneaker customizers out there: Go big, or go home. Once a ‘faux-pas’ in the sneaker game, the custom sneaker has become a powerhouse category on its own largely in part due to some creative cats who have chopped and screwed general release sneakers in masterpieces. A few swipes of Angelus paint won’t be enough to get recognition in the competitive custom-sneaker game – you have to come through with sick concepts and a steady hand. Take for example this latest custom work by Pimp My Kicks; inspired by the world’s most luxurious mobile phone crafted by Swiss timepiece manufacturer Ulysse Nardin, this Dunk Low custom features a glossy croc skin print, an etches toebox of sailing anchors, and a sick lace dubrae emblem of the Nardin brand. It’s one of the best-done Dunk customs we’ve seen front to back, so check out the gallery below and let us know what you think.

The Nike Dunk is an institution in the sneaker world, a model that’s been going strong for over a quarter-century with well over that still left in the tank. The Dunk is one of those foundational models that’s seen a bit of attention stolen by the newfangled lifestyle sneakers that’ve come onto the scene in the past couple years, and that’s where this newest custom release from Pimp My Kicks comes into play. Handcrafted by Hollywood’s Oliver Moore Bootmakers, the Nike Dunk Hybrid Dress collection by PMK pairs rich mahogany and olive dress leather with black authentic alligator for a mere 5 pairs each of the ‘Spy’/wingtip and ‘Soldier’/captoe Highs along with the ‘Tailor’/penny loafer Lows and another lowtop that echoes the ‘Golf Pack’ Dunk Low SB’s tassled lace cover. The quality is apparent in more images you’ll see after the jump, and in a world where we haven’t yet seen a Dunk Bespoke experience, is it possible these are some of the nicest pairs ever created? Let us know what you think and stick with Sneaker News for more custom sneaker designs.
