After weeks of heated combat in the SN March Madness Sneaker Tournament, only two leather-clad warriors are left standing, each with their eyes fixed on the pride, glory and bragging rights that come along with being named the greatest sneaker of all time. While the eventual winner might not be your personal favorite, the choices made throughout the tournament have come solely from you, our loyal readers, so majority rules and the champion will hold the title thanks to your votes. As you can see, the final battle will see two of the sneaker world’s most beloved Nike subdivisions go toe to toe, as the winner of the Air Jordan bracket and the Nike Dunk SB bracket face off for the crown.
The Air Jordan XI has been cruising through the competition up until this point, but the Pigeons have taken out some pretty tough competition on their way to the finals as well. It should be very interesting to see who emerges as the victor, and it all starts with your votes. Polls are open now, so get your votes in and stay tuned to find out who will walk away as our March Madness Sneaker Tournament champion. Voting will remain open until Thursday at midnight with the winner announced Friday.

While the Air Jordan XI was helped out by the recent memories of Christmas Day jubilation, the release of Jeff Staple’s Nike SB Dunk Low Pro ‘Pigeon’ goes a little further back in time. Then again, you might convincingly argue that had Staple’s Pigeon Dunks not caused a riot in New York, that the entirety of sneakerhead culture might be drastically different. This is a shoe that many believe started the current wave of sneaker culture, a release event that set the tone for ravenous collectors and a steadily-growing hype machine. Is being the grail that reignited a whole subculture enough to make the Pigeon SB Dunks our Sneaker News March Madness Tournament Champion?

Did the greatest season in NBA history coincide with the release of the greatest sneaker of all time? In 1995, Michael Jordan began his first full season back in the league wearing a shoe that broke necks when it was spotted in the previous year’s playoffs, the Air Jordan XI. Its use of carbon fiber and patent leather demanded respect and with a 72-win season and an appearance in the movie Space Jam, it became synonymous with the absolute peak of Michael Jordan’s dominance. Nearly fifteen years after the OGs dropped, the Space Jam retro rendered retailers helpless in a way only rivaled by its competitor in this tournament. don’t get me wrong, the Space Jams are an iconic shoe, but nowadays (with the 09′ release) waaay to many people have the Jams.
If a sneaker head saw another sneaker head on the street rocking the pigeons, there would be instantaneous respect.

In all honesty the pigeons should win this tourney. I have both sneakers and I remember when the pigeons released. The police had to escort people to the train station or to their cars. Like really they only made 150 pairs ever!!! The XIs got released in 96, 01, 09 (my years may be off) and they gonna be released in all white this year. If your gonna vote, vote for the sneaker that is more exclusive. Try to get a pair of pigeons DS, you’re lucky if you drop anything less than 2Gs.

All you people are stuck in the past; AF1 is past it’s prime for a reason. It’s played out, EVERYONE and THEIR MOTHER LITERALLY has owned at least one pair; Jordan XI are ALL ugly. You just dickride because it’s Jordan. The new Kobe’s have a much nicer silhouette than the XI (and I hate Kobe) Pigeons are really hyped up but the dunk silhouette is much nicer aesthetically. Although, dunks are really played now too.
But of course people are gonna disagree because it’s Jordan, and he is like a God to you folks. Whatever floats your boat. I hope the Pigeons win this just so you all bitch and cry about how this is unfair.

Someone said without Nike Jordan would not exist. Jordan is the shoe that created all this. SB heads are hypebeast and I bet you they couldn’t even tell you some of the history of SB…. SB was never next to Nike sign in year 01-02 and people weren’t even on SB until 2005 that’s when all the hype started. Yeah SB pigeons are rare and only 150 were made and if want a DS pair you have to pay a pretty penny $2000 or more. I mean before hypebeast were even on SB’s they were on rare airforces. Jordan has always been a hype since day on because he is the greatest basketball player of all time(following foot steps is Lebron James) when we all new he had his own shoes we all wanted a pair… Uuumm Nike owns Jordan in other words jordan is Nike. I’m not saying that hypebeast are not on the hype about j’s because they are but who isn’t even if you are old school… It’s like “damn I used to have those” and you want a fresh pair or two one to rock and one to keep on ice for whatever you are going to do with the second pair. But it’s going to sit on ice until you decide. Well I just hate the fact that now a days there’s such thing as fusion which I hate so much and people that buy anything and want the latest shit and that they don’t shit about nothing they just want the shoe that everyelse has uuumm damn(hoodstars) they don’t even know the name or # of the shoe. i agree that the air jordan xi is what it is because of the history behind it. jordan returned to the nba and won a title but that is the whole point. the history makes it an even greater shoe. they were a general release and people when crazy over them. the pigeons are nice but make them a general release and lets see if people still give a shit about them years and years from now. what do the pigeons have other than being named after a bird and being limited… a very boring design. the jordan 11s have the fact that the greatest player ever wore them to win a title right after coming back from retirement, first ever basketball shoe to have patent leather, included the cf spring plate simply raising the bar on how basketball shoes are designed.

^^^Polamelo24^^^ is an idiot. SB hype goes back to 2002 and Dunk hype since the late 90′s. Every shoe on the list is dope but this list is lacking. You should have clearly stated model vs model. Like the Dunk Low’s 4 best colorways vs. AJ IIIs Blk/Cmt, Wht/Cmt, True Blue, Fire Reds. Do this better next year……..maybe do a tournament with the 32 most expensive sneakers.

Jordan xi hyped? No… Space jam hyped? Still no. Someone please explain why you keep saying it. Is it cause u got a peak of it in a cartoon movie? Is that why this colorway is a hypebeast shoe? Cause it came out in 2000 and we saw it in 1996, and we were waiting salivating over this for years… No it was just another sample that didn’t mean anything until it was a confirmed release. A hypebeasts whole reason for buying sneakers is for attention to break guys necks which is pretty gay. You think a space jam does that. I dont think so it’s subtle, they would rather pick a limited wild color foam or dunk to get that effect. Even though the 2009 release sold out instantly for under $200 anyone who wanted it could get it for around $250 if they wanted to. The limited release aspect shouldn’t mean jack cause if u wanted it you got it. In 5 minutes of knowing about its release u knew if u were copping, unless u r an OG head complaining bout everything in life. The months in between don’t add hype. I do respect. I love the shoe culture but it doesn’t mean that I’m going buy what’s in hype. So I’m not a clone. For me I buy what I use to have back in the day when my mom used to buy me shoes they don’t fit me now so I have to buy my actual size that I wear now. I’m going by design and looks of a shoe. Pigeon is just a SB Dunk with a pigeon on it. XI is an advanced shoe in look and tech.NO other shoe looks like it. Hands down – XI. I we are voting for most slept on, then I’d vote Pigeon.
Whoever set up these brackets should be shot because its doesn’t weigh in popularity to get the best shoes into the finals.

I agree with 153…if you just looking at the shoe then I dont think it’s much of a battle. To me the hypebeasts are the one’s making this a close contest. The XI’s are trend-setting sneaker. Period. Nothing can change that, just so happens I was walking through the mall not even 30 mins ago and this dude had on some space jams wit shorts and even though I have a pair (or 3) I had to look because they just look better than everything else.
Trust me if there was no sneaker culture at all and you walked in a store that sold shoes and sitting side-by-side were some dunks and some space jams. I would think that many more people would go with the space jams.

everyone keeps saying the same thing and nobody is disagreeing with them. the pidgeys should win because they dropped once @ 150 pairs. the XI (not jus SJ) dropped n sold out jus as fast. the pigeons should win only because you dont have them, cant get them, but if the opportunity rose youd cop jus to shit on everyone else. the XI should win because of technology, retarded resell in the months to follow after the drop, MJ, and all out jordan collector status. Every XI cw VS every Dunk colorway isnt fair because the dunks have more colors than there are jordans in existence (including fakes).

It is impossible to have a poll to vote 4 the models of the shoes without automatically thinking of the colourways and ltd editions of each model. IMO opinion there should have been more shoes of each model….Ultimately the Jordan XI shits all over the DUNK SB as a model…..To me the Jordan Line, Foamposite Line, and Air Max lines are the best overall…I got love for Dunks tho and id have to say the “What the” dunks and Brian Anderson’s would be my favorites….That being said the Space Jam is by far the best CW in the Jordan XI and in my top 5..

Okay so all sneakerheads hate hypebeasts and thats just the way things go. Honestly why can’t a hypebeast be a sneakerhead whats the differentiating factor? Yeah so the pigeons are limited why doesn’t that factor into them being a good shoe? Isn’t the AJXI worn by hypebeasts? I’m sure the huge lines, people getting robbed, and stores getting destroyed was created by the hype for the shoe. As much as sneakerheads might hate it hype is a part of sneaker culture and will be forever. Some of Nike SB’s best early dunks were created for hype companies like Supreme, Stussy, and Diamond. I’m not writing this to pan the AJXI, but like a sneakerhead if I’m collecting anything and I have something that they made 20,000 of other than something they made 150 of I would value the rarer thing more. I collect sneakers as a sneakerhead I love the AJXI it fits amazing feels great to play ball in and I see so many people rocking them, they’re iconic. If I have a dollar thats nice I can use it in vending machines pay for stuff I see everyone with them, now if I have a two dollar bill I’m gonna hold onto that as long as I can because it’s harder to find not because of its intrinsic value.

If Nike never took a chance and threw every penny they had into Mj..there would be No sb line. Nike wouldn’t have the balls they have if Jordan would’ve went to adidas..so really he made it possible for every other branch of Nike..and the XI’s changed views of sneakers..c’mon sneakers with tuxedos..he made it possible and Ok to do. Jordan gave Nike the confidence to always explore and reach beyond the norm..which is where all of the “themes” for their shoes come from. Just respect it.

i’d vote for 11′s,ever since it was released back in 95,it is considered the best sneaker in the world. so this is not a contest.right now no one beats air jordans.so i cant wait to have a tournament for sneakers of great baller’s such as lebrons,pennys,kobes and jordans.that is dope. and i believe that the 11′s will have a great competitor. and it’s going to be the kobe 4′s.

@Passenger57 You must not have watched Jordan play before he became a part of the NBA because Nike and everyone else knew Michael Jordan was going to be great. Nike took no risk at picking Jordan to be their sponsor. Also Nike did not even throw a quarter of what they earned into betting on Jordan. Also Jordan didn’t make Nike famous. For skate boarding Nike SB was definetly bound to happen. In the 70′s skaters were already rocking All Court Hi’s and Blazers. Come the 80′s the Dunk showed up and took the skate shoe to a new level Nike was already a deep part of skate history something that they managed to do long before Jordan brand and the AJXI.
