Air Jordan VIII Aqua Featured In Edwin Ushiro Painting

The Jonathon LeVine Gallery in New York City, home to the 2011 Annual Summer Invitational, will feature a set of international artists and some new works – one notable being this painting by Edwin Ushiro. The Hawaii-native’s piece, titled The Makamakaole Gultch Man, features a boy clad in a Michael Jordan Bulls jersey and the Air Jordan VIII Aqua riding a tree shrub of some sort, which is riding a bicycle. Take a moment to let that concept sink in. A boy riding a tree riding a bike. In any case, if you’re in the NYC area and want to check out this painting in person, the Jonathon LeVine Gallery will open this exhibit this August 10th. via ArrestedMotion.

"features a boy clad in a Michael Jordan Bulls jersey and the Air Jordan VII Aqua riding a tree shrub" Yep, you're right, those most definitely aren't sevens lol

  10. metmanaman Says:

Eh, I honestly like his other work better. Any piece of art with obvious brand or cultural icons has to do more than just evoke an emotion, which is the de facto definition of art nowadays. If you're going to include something like the fact that this kid is an mj fan, do it for a reason, like concerning childhood heroes, inner-city problems, the wealth disparity as concerned with consumerism, etc. It's not like he just put the two things in coincidentally because it's part of his backround. He quite obviously chose to use a Bulls jersey and pair of AJ8s specifically. Why not use an exact model of bicycle then? Or give him a G-shock or timex watch? Hell one of those calculator watches lol. Or make the hat be branded. The concept is dope, but the mj references just seem base because of what is quite likely a missed opportunity.

Indeed, it was my pair of Aquas that inspired this painting. I have the world's best pair of aquas, all other aquas besides mine are flawed.

  20. Edwin Ushiro Says:

I'm glad you like it, my inspiration for this one was you mom. I fucked her last night doggy style with those shoes on and that explains why i drew myself in that position.

  21. carlosbxx23 Says:

  22. boogie man Says:

yes that was funny but extrmemly unnecessary
