In the most talked about and perhaps unexpected development in recent memory (really saying something when you consider the bountiful holiday spread we just enjoyed), Jordan Brand grants the request for which so many die-hard fans have been begging. The Air Jordan III ’88 Retro brings back the coveted ‘Nike Air’ heel badge, a feature that’d been replaced by the Jumpman in recent iterations including the 2011 original colorway lineup. The hangtag follows suit for a classic feel as we approach this iconic design’s 25th anniversary with a projected February release date in line with that same birthday for the unforgettable free-throw-line-dunk poster. Have a look at some new images after the jump and stick with Sneaker News to see what else is in store to follow-up on arguably the best year of sneakers ever.
Is there going to be a quality distinction video between these the original OG's and the 2011 release?
Ima get that lottery ticket at foot locker n champs if they dnt call me ill try online but 2 many douche bags with super fast internet but 4sure not paying 500 bucks on ebay
The quality looks really really on point, i would cop a pair if i get a chance for a decent price. However, it bugs me to think how much JB is laughing at us behind the curtain for copping the same shit over and over again. It's like "guys, should we start bringing back the Nike check for this release? it's been some time since we retro these". "Naw wait! let's release them with a Jumpman on the tab first, then wait the year after for the Nike Nike! Bitches loves them Nike Air! They can't resist!"
I been wearing my wc3's a lot lately n they just starting to peel n crack,so these wil definitely be copped.now if they can release the blck cement 3 like this too..I'll be fukn goood n laughin at the dudes still holdin the 2011 release n trynna rape for $300+
The cement on the toe is trimmed really weird and the design is thick. Anyway they don't need to show us pictures everyday. The only difference is the Nike Air. Gosh.
Don't be stupid people. If u already own these, save ur money for something u don't have. It doesn't even have to be Jordans. Reebok has a lot of heat for next year. Be original and buy what u like!
So stupid they put Nike Air on the back, then put Jordan on the sole. If you're going to do them, do them right, JB; and with good leather, not that shiny plastic garbage!
C'mon Jordan Brand please INCREASE the F*****' SHOE SUPPLY!!! So I can try and cop 'em!!! (And who knows even find 'em on SALE!) And so RESELLERS CAN BE EXTINCT!! Unfortunately, thanks to SN for f****** it ALL up not once, twice, but three f*****' times for revealing online shoe stores!!!! Now, I can't seem to cop from my favorite online shoe stores anymore SMFH!!
3rd post in 3 days let the hype build i personally dont like the the white cement 3 so having nike air on the back means nothn to me i'll pass
I don't own any 3's, and I'm not going to start with these either. The problem is, JB just set a precedent on re-retroing shoes with the Nike AIR on the back that just came out. Why stop here? Why not the White/Cement 4's or any pair that just came out with in the last couple years. Thing is, if you want the shoe you can gamble of them releasing a Jumpman pair, then a Nike AIR pair down the line, or you can do what they want and buy both pairs. Either way you're screwed, and JB is richer for doing it. It's nice of them to basically make a pair of shoes that can still smell brand new irrelevant in sure a short time. Instead of making more people want to buy their stuff, they going to drive people away. Will it drive me away? No, I'll still buy them in the same fashion I always did because I love shoes, I have since I had my first pair of 1's in 86, it'll never change for me.
If the Black/Cement come out then Id buy since I miss last release. A true sneakerhead miss some and cop some and these I'm sleeping on got to get Black/Blue 1's and Lighting 4's
Has anyone noticed the toe box difference between these new retros and the pre 2000 retros? These are more boxy and those were more narrow, if you know what I mean?
IMO the Nike Air doesn't really mean anything, it's just a way for nike and jb to get more money out of us
Just saying theres no need to keep making comments on these again since they already had 2 articles within the last 3 to 4 days. We pretty much gitten our questions out but it do surprise me that ppl are saying what I imagine. I said that ppl would bitch about quality, before the 1's & 3's came to light with nike air tons of u folks kept saying if we can only get nike air back back y'all wouldn't care. Most of y'all say onething then change y'all mind about another thing. Like I said before just appreciate what were getting bcuz they don't have to release them at all. Its either buy them or pass on them. I'm preety sure most of u feel like me keep seeing and reading the comments about the samething on every retro about quality or this or that. At the end of the day it is what it is but u don't have to spend your money if u feel displeased off of pics.
@cavematt When will I most likely be able to get the lottery ticket from footlocker or champs? Like when do they usually do it and how does it work? Haha I'm new at this. I want to get these for my son because i had the originals when i was younger, but didn't keep them because I didn't understand how much they would be worth in the future. Help me!!! Thank you!!!
@23kicksfor23chicks there are differences like the holes are bigger on the tongue and the heel collar, but what caught my attention the most is the toebox isnt precreased like the 2011 models were. Yes the look very similar but overall I think these might be better but cant really kno til I see the in person. Nike air or not I love the white cements
@17mustangs It only looks shiny because of the watermark on the photo.
quit bitching and just don't buy the shoe........that simple
@17mustangs The put Jordan on the bottom to differentiate them from the Og's and the Original Retro's so that way no one can pass them off as Originals due to the Jordan branding on the bottom. I think that is very smart very very smart.
@"C.E.O." dont we wish they would increase the supply or at least save us a pair but they're cash cows gotta have people to buy the release after that
@NewbombedTurk i don't see it as a problem. i also just buy whatever i want. i am being greatful because JB is giving us a lot of choices.
@AljosaCikojevic thanks that means someone else will get their pair.
@StRoKiN_Ur_MoM Funny, I always thought a TRUE sneakerhead planed in advance for every release, so that he/she guarantees they leave with the goods. I guess we both define the hobby differently.
@RT5 real talk i thought that was the price of these lol
@Foots230 when marqeesole gets a pair they'll be up once again
@ac2slater Feb 16th is what I've seen
U picked the right dude bro. Well since camping got really crazy especially 2011s concords retro11 they started this lottery system which means u go 2 foot locker or champs n ask 4 a ticket n its a lottery ticket u give ur name n phone number with shoe size n if u win they call u n u go pick it up on the release date in the morning. Before they come out check on unlockedfoot locker.com or on foot lockers facebook theyll announce it there with the procedures. I heard some places hand out tickets n thats it there urs but not my location idk about urs. When the retro 4s bred came out on black friday they handed tickets out the sunday n monday before black friday hope that helped bro
@keef_ledger69 I do what I want so just read my comment and let it simmer. You wouldn't know a quality OG if it stepped on your face.
@boodle81 @17mustangs good to see someone like boodle81 understand completely why they done this. It was an excellent idea, but thats the game of retros to look alike but stand as its own. Since nike started retroing jordans back in 94 thats how it always been but somewhere down the line ppl forgot that and the understanding of a retro
@boodle81 Oh, I know why they did it. OG head's like myself can tell the difference between the originals and retros. The elephant print is even different. The older models can barely be worn anymore so they should at least make them with good leather and do them justice. That's all I am saying. Peace.
@inTheNameofQuen @"C.E.O." you guys still ain't figured out where the problem is. Its your local retailer, first get a connect somewhere like I do. I ask my guy on every release jordan that drop how many he getting he tells me. I ask how many are the other stores getting bcuz my guy knows evryone in each store and he tells me there numbers. Now I call these other places when I already kno how many pairs they have on deck, if its 120 pairs these retail stores will say 60 or 50 and its a general release. So of course the employess have there pairs on hold and the retailers also help the resellers bcuz their willing to pay more just to make more when they post them on craigslist or any sneaker site. Yes sum J's are really limited but for the most part a GR like the cool grey 9's come in big numbers. This guy on youtube said a store only had 8 CG 9's serioulsly and its a GR. Its the retailers scwering y'all over not nike. Only way to fix this problem is reaching out to the corp about these shady ass retailers in the stores. Example I watches an entire store get fired bcuz of the spacejams back in 09, all these pissed off parents and other shoeheads call corp and they fired that ass.
@Lusinmader I did plan in advance by not getting a pair of shoes I already have when there are plenty of other opportunities to have beside just Jordan. Or maybe your a Jordan head and not a TRUE Sneakerhead more kicks then just a Jumpman.
@boodle81 thanks bruh
