Want some free sneakers? You’re in luck, as Darrell Revis associate and noted sneaker scene figure John Geiger is currently giving some away on Instagram. He’s not said just how many pairs are up for grabs, but Geiger promises to select “quite a few people” to receive pairs, presumably from the impressive pile/closet shot that accompanied the announcement. And, he’s not making you repost or fiddle with any special hashtags in order to qualify. Go to Geiger’s page to enter and give us a shout in the comments if you have any luck.

kicksology returns Returns Ten Years Later

Before the age of social media, blogs, and YouTube, the digital sneaker world was comprised of three destinations – Niketalk, ISS forums, and The first two were, of course, community forums in which users could discuss sneaker releases, surprise finds, leaked photos (Anyone remember the Air Jordan XVI sketches popping up on NT?), but Kicksology was a beast of its own. The site was run by Ernest Kim aka Professor K., who provided the most thorough breakdowns of basketball shoes; it was the go-to source for basketball sneaker reviews, crisp photos of said shoes (those bland yet signature white background snaps were allegedly taken in his bathroom), and generally a place to kill loads of time while learning more about basketball design and performance through the eyes of a well-versed individual.

Kicksology shut down in 2004, taking its entire database of hoop shoe literature with it, but a few days ago Professor K (who’s been working at Nike for a minute) announced that it would be revived to some degree. Don’t expect new reviews (he’s leaving that to the new wave of experts), but rather the occasional bringback of an OG article in conjunction with a recent Retro, his other sneaker-related and unrelated thoughts, and much more from one of the most influential minds in the sneaker game. For the younger members in the sneaker community, consider this a real treat. For the older ones, yes – it’s been a full decade since Kicksology closed down. Keep your eye on (he just republished his first Air Flightposite review from 2000), and let us know what you think of this “comeback”!

Think you can pull off more trick shots than an NBA player? More specifically, James Harden? Foot Locker’s presenting you the opportunity to take the man down – all you have to do is record a video of yourself (Vine, Instagram, or Youtube) pulling off a sick shot or dunk and tag @footlocker #HorseWithHarden to get their attention. Harden will then select a group of submissions and attempt to stay alive without spelling out the word (y’all know the drill). Check out the video below for more details.

adidas has more big news for today – they’ll be setting up a new creative design studio in Brooklyn for 2015. This spot will be lead by designers Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner, who adidas just acquired from Nike. The idea here is to give the brand a “cultural contact point” where a small team of creatives will incubate ideas with the help of the aforementioned design trio. They’ve not announced a locale just yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the proximity of the Barclays Center given the brand’s Nets ties. Continue reading for their official statement on the upcoming adidas creative design studio in Brooklyn and stick with us for updates.

Nike Designers Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner Hired by adidas

It appears that adidas have managed another impressive move to add to their ongoing resurgence: Nike designers Marc Dolce, Denis Dekovic, and Mark Miner will be working with adidas beginning in 2015. The announcement comes via the Twitter of Dekovic, and has tacitly been confirmed by various adidas PR folk on social media endorsing the message. Generally such high level designers have some non-compete clauses that force them to take a little break when making the switch to another footwear company, so we wouldn’t be surprised if these three will have some downtime between now and their future adidas employment. See Dekovic’s tweet below and let us know in the comments how you feel about these Nike designers being hired at adidas.
