Over the last few days, adidas Originals gave new meaning to the name “All-Star Weekend” with a non-stop schedule of star-studded events held at adidas retailers in the Houston area. It started with the grand opening event of adidas Originals Collective by Footaction in the Willowbrook Mall, where Big Sean and DMC came through to meet and greet fans (did you catch our interview?). On the same night, the Eason Chen x Jeremy Scott Wings dropped at Premium Goods to a sold out crowd as well. Friday’s events kept up the pace as Teyana Taylor’s Harlem GLC released at the adidas Performance store at the Galleria Mall, with a special in-store event with Teyana herself going down later in that day. She provided a live performance of her tracks, but her G.O.O.D. Music pals Big Sean and Pusha T tore the roof off with an abridged rendition of the Grammy-nominated track “Mercy”. Teyana finished off the night sharing hugs with every single fan that stayed ’til the very end.
Continuing the adidas Originals takeover was an in-store appearance at Galleria Mall’s Shiekh Shoes by none other than the undisputed sneakerhead celeb Wale. He stuck around to hand out autographs, with special first-dibs going to those who copped the adidas Originals TSR Lite “Trophy Hunter”. Just below, NBA All-Star Dwight Howard made an appearance at the adidas Performance store. Sunday’s closing events featured A$AP Rocky making an extended appearance at the H-Town Sneaker Summit, where hundreds of fans gathered to take personal photos with the exploding star. Teyana Taylor stopped by as well, closing out four days of great events for sneakerheads, hip-hop fans, and followers of urban culture alike. Many thanks to adidas Originals for giving Sneaker News the ultimate All-Star experience!

Big Sean’s acute sense of style has been documented by hip-hop publications and urban fashion radars for years, and last December, we finally got a chance to experience his personal taste’s with the release of Detroit Player – a footwear collaboration with adidas Originals that paid tribute to his roots as well as the iconic status of the Pro Model. During adidas Originals’ launch event of the adidas Originals Collective by Footaction, Sneaker News and special guest Big Sean got to chat about shoes, style, the future of his partnership with adidas, and more.
Of course, this was after the star spent a lengthy time posing for photos and signing autographs for his devoted fans, but even then, the G.O.O.D. Music member was ready, prepared, and willing to give us his insights. As the legendary DMC of Run DMC stated during a quick chat at the event, adidas style isn’t meant to be untouchable, but for the every-day person who wants to live that lifestyle, and given Big Sean’s thoughts during our chat, that mindset of unity and not exclusivity is certainly consistent.

The Big Sean x adidas Originals Pro Model ‘Detroit Player’ was a rather tough release to grab thanks to the regional nature of their rollout and the fact that only 380 pairs are in existence. Of course, rapper Wale is totally unfamiliar with the term “tough release to grab” when it comes to sneakers. The man was recently spotted rocking the Big Sean collab on stage, flashy gold dubrae and all, at a private concert put on by adidas Football. Get a quick recap from the concert below and stay tuned to see if Wale continues to sport adidas on the regular.
