stash air max 95 2006 Classics Revisited: Stash x Nike Air Max 95 (2006)

NIKE AIR MAX 95 WEEK

Is the Stash x Nike Air Max 95 the greatest Air Max 95 of all-time? Some may agree, while others still consider the original Neon colorway the untouchable when it comes to ’95 colorways, but either stance can’t really be argued against. We touched on Stash’s ‘Blue Pack’ when we featured the Stash x Nike Air Force 1 during Air Force 1 Week, and we knew we would revisit this 2006 release again because the Air Max 95 counterpart is in fact one of the greatest Air Max releases of all-time. These featured the same Harbor Blue colorway and introduced that durable weather-ready material on the upper, but the 95 possesses an identity all-too distinct from it’s Air Force 1 Low brother.

The Stash x Nike Air Max 95 was the first Air Max 95 to feature a speckled midsole, as Stash ‘sprayed’ it with Harbor Blue on a Black base. Not to say Stash’s rendition of the ’95 was too distant from the original, because he utilized the outstanding gradient effect to his advantage by tying in the Black with Midnight Navy to create a dusk-til-dawn effect, while the speckle gave the shoes an additional ‘night sky’ effect. The Stash x Air Max 95 is certainly one of the most sought-after Air Max 95s of all-time, floating around the $600-700 level of value, but good luck finding a pair in new condition because anyone who got their hands on these rocked ‘em the first chance they got. So is the Stash x ’95 the best Air Max 95 of all-time? You tell us and stay tuned as always for more from Classics Revisited.

Classics Revisited: Nike Air Max 95 “Olympic” (2004)

NIKE AIR MAX 95 WEEK

As the collaboration approach to sneaker releases exploded in the early part of the last decade, the various silos within the Nike Air Max heritage were consistently among the most selected as far as team-up projects. Take a look back through our other selections for the Classics Revisited Nike Air Max 95 models, or any of the Nike Air Max 1′s and 90′s also featured in the space previously, and you’ll realize that bubble bottom sneakers where very much where it was at if you wanted to create a minimally produced masterpiece with the likes of Swoosh. And with all the hullabaloo surrounding those Tier Zero releases the in-house team out in Beaverton had their work cut out for them, forced to compete with the crazy ideas being brought to the table by the likes of DQM, Stash, and Dave White just to name a few.

How did they do? Take a look at this 2004 release and be the judge for yourself. The pair arrived right in time for the four year Olympic cycle with a rainbow of colors striping the upper to situate itself in the festivities. And unlike the host of Olympic styled models making their way to retail in 2012, this Nike Air Max 95 was a bit more worldly in its aim, opting for the five rings color scheme rather than something borrowed from Old Glory. Of course there was a bit of distinctly USA flavor, with the Air Max tongue badge boasting a simplified American flag design in the background. Continue reading for a better look at the Nike Air Max 95 ‘Olympic’, a leather gem from nearly a decade ago that made its presence known amongst the fierce competition of collabs running the scene at the time. Let us know if you’ve got a pair in your rotation in the comments below and keep it here as we roll out the rest of Nike Air Max 95 week on Classics Revisted.

NIKE AIR MAX 95 WEEK

Although Japanese retailers atmos and mita sneakers don’t have any ties to one another, they’re often mentioned in the same breath as two of the most reputable International sneaker spots. Even today, atmos and mita sneakers continue to enjoy a stay of relevance in the much larger sneaker community mainly due to their ongoing partnerships with Nike and the fruitful sneaker collaborations they’ve produced. When speaking on the Air Max 95, atmos and mita sneakers are the two names that come up the most because as we alluded to yesterday in our Classics Revisited spotlight, the Air Max 95 just isn’t a much-collaborated-with sneaker.

Since we started Air Max 95 Week off with atmos’ attempt, why not follow it with mita’s ‘Neo Escape’? Releasing in 2004, the mita x Nike Air Max 95 was an International hit as it was available at only the most select retailers. Alongside the dazzling colorway of Black/Grey/Blue Reef, the ‘Neo Escape’ gave the Air Max 95 a massive punch not only with the pixelated detailing on the upper, but the glossy Black-Blue Reef gradient effect on the front-running stripe that also housed the Swoosh and he ‘Neo Escape’the special insoles with Japanese lettering. The ‘Neo Escape’ was brought to life with the Neo Escape 2.0, where a similar colorway was adapted to the Air Max 95 360. More of this classic Air Max below, so take a look and stay tuned to see what we’re featuring tomorrow!

Nike Air Max 95 – Wolf Grey – Black – Blue Glow

Sneaker News just showed you a ‘London’ pair that featured inspiration from the United Kingdom’s foggy capital city, and now here comes another new Nike Air Max 95 that manages to stay in step with the JD Sports-exclusive signature look while straying pretty far from that LDN design.  This new style combines Wolf Grey, black and Blue Glow for a look that has plenty of balance to go along with the contrast of its accent shades. The tiering on these lends an especially sporty look (particularly from the front), black stripes adding a sense of velocity that, while nowhere near as colorful, hints at the magic behind works like Jeff Koons’ infamous BMW M3.  Click through to see more photos, let us know how they compare to recent releases including the ever-colorful BB editions and grab yours from JD Sports.

NIKE AIR MAX 95 WEEK

Where does the Air Max 95 rank among the greatest Nike Air Max sneakers of all-time? The Ninety-Five sticks out like a sore thumb and is likely the most recognizable Air Max of the History of Air, and even someone who isn’t familiar with Nikes is likely to remember the classic so long as you give a short description of the shoe’s build. The full-length multi-compartment Max Air unit, the 3M reflective stripe on the heel, the insane design that subliminally detailed the human anatomy – those features come together to form a distinct design that burns a hole in anyone’s memory, particularly if the flagship colorway boasts an electric neon green that appears to burst out from the seams of the Air bubble. Some considered the 95 to simply be the ‘Air Max’, owning the definitive label as the ultimate Nike Air-centric performance runner thanks to copious amounts of Air and a heady design concept. Additionally, the 95 was somewhat of a black sheep for a number of reasons; the initial design withstood some negative feedback, and and unlike the previous string of Air Max heritage runners, the 95 was not designed by Tinker Hatfield, but by Sergio Lozano. And while the Air Max 95 continues to be one of the most popular Nikes in the world, it wasn’t as much of a coveted model as the Air Max 1 and 90 were, especially during the era of collaborations and art-based projects.

That isn’t saying there weren’t any memorable Air Max 95s; the shoe we’re kicking Air Max 95 week off with here in Classics Revisited was partly responsible for making ‘atmos’, a Japan-based retailer, a household name in the States. In tandem with the ‘Viotech’ Air Max 1, atmos made its name with its design of the Air Max 95, which jumbled a mis-match of tones like brown, tan, gold, and rich purple with a solid gum outsole. atmos left the materials untouched, opting for the original suede and soft white mesh upper while tinkering with the ‘muscle fibers’ for color contrast. The atmos x Nike Air Max 95 is one of the earliest ’95′ collaborations to go down in what’s proven to be an overall limited selection of the category, but we’ll attribute that to the fact the original Black/Grey/Neon colorway just can’t be topped. If you’re not familiar with the atmos x Nike Air Max 95, check it out below and stay tuned for another great collection of 95 bangers that you might’ve forgotten about, and let us know if you have these in your collection!

Nike Air Max 95 “London”

nike air max 95 london 1 Nike Air Max 95 London

With all the recent attention given to the Big Bubbled Hyperfuse refresh and the equally new No-Sew style, it’s nice to see that a store known for its Nike Air Max 95 exclusives can still come through with new twists on its signature style.  JD Sports has cranked out countless Ninety Fives that get their cool good looks from lots of ‘steely’ colors in the blue, grey and black range, and this latest manages to do that in tribute to the United Kingdom’s capital and its notoriously foggy weather.  The ‘Nike LONDON’ tongue tags remind us that these are more River Thames than New York Yankees during the summer of 2012, and you can see additional images after the jump including the Underground map outsole, before you grab yours from JD Sports.

Nike Air Max 95 No-Sew – Anthracite – Tide Pool Blue – Cool Grey – Wolf Grey

Owing at least in part to the fact that soft blues are among the most wardrobe-friendly colors in the entire visible spectrum, Nike has come through with more new blue colors in recent years than any other letter portion of ROYGBIV. Tide Pool (Blue) is one that’s appeared on several spring 2012 releases, so it seems fitting that this crystalline blue shade also appears on an update to one of the all-time classic runners. The Nike Air Max 95 No-Sew is ready for just about anything you’d like to match them with thanks to the aforementioned blue and a host of greys; will you be ready if/when this design that just dropped in Asia, arrives at US NSW stores? Let us know how these compare to the best Air Max 95 No-Sews we’ve seen so far and stick with Sneaker News for word on US availability. via IST

Nike Air Max 95 – White – Grey – University Blue

The Nike Air Max 95‘s gradient colorways are almost as famous as the shoe’s human anatomy-inspired lines, and this year’s Big Bubble 360 update has shown us even more thanks to Hyperfuse construction.  The original continues to evolve as well, this new Air Max 95 in its familiar suede and mesh offering a variation on the classic white-grey-black sweep that omits the last and darkest of that list altogether in favor of a bit more levity.  All the soft greys, white and University Blue that makes this design unique are practically cloud-like in concert, so you’ll need to act fast before this heavenly AM95 is gone from the only store that carries this colorway: JD Sports.
