LeBron James is right now in the middle of a stretch of years during which he’s been the most decorated basketball player on the planet. We can only speculate on how long the King will stay at the peak of his powers (or if he’s even there yet), but three straight NBA Finals appearances and back to back championships suggest there’s still plenty more to come. And while we’re definitely not going to give all the credit to the shoes, an obvious common thread between both championships has been the Elite Series version of his signature model on his feet come playoff time.
With the third generation of Nike Basketball’s Elite Series set to release later this week, we thought we’d take a look back at LeBron’s first round of Elites, and a shoe that we’ll always remember for coinciding with his first successful title run. The Nike LeBron 9 Elite pushed the envelope both from a technical perspective as well as pricing, and also stood out for keeping a bunch of tasty colorways unreleased. As we wait to see if a third Elite shoe will bring LeBron a third ring, let’s go back and examine some of the best 9 Elites in tonight’s NINE@NINE.

This weekend has quietly turned out to be one of those massive ones for all things Beaverton between the Air Jordan XII ‘Playoffs’, the Nike Air Force 1 Low VT ‘Camo’, and the second batch of Nike Fly Knit goodies arriving as well. To top it all off some sneaks originally scheduled for next weekend miraculously got bumped up at at least one online retailer, with the ‘Away’ versions of both the Nike LeBron 9 Elite and the Nike Zoom Kobe VII Elite up for grabs now at Jimmy Jazz. Click through for a look at both before you make your decision and act fast if you wanna cop, but if you miss out and would prefer the digital route, you can pick up either pair right now on eBay.

While LeBron James will certainly have the Championship Trophy on his mind when he and Miami Heat begin their quest in the Playoffs, he won’t be playing every game in Miami, will he? Accompanying the Nike LeBron 9 Elite ‘Home’ that we just kicked off is the obvious ‘Away’ colorway, which features a sturdy black base paired with the luxurious gold detailing. The upper is strengthened with a carbon fiber panel that spans the lateral outrigger to the heel, giving LeBron’s 240 lb. frame enough protection when he cuts, darts, and explodes off the hardwood and slams in a monstrous two. The ‘wing’ is also replaced by the lightweight and breathable mesh for decreased weight, and the other details like the visible Flywire and the Pro Combat-padded tongue and interior complete the ‘Elite’ appeal, awarding the LeBron 9 Elite the designation as the sexiest LeBron shoe ever created. Of course, ‘Home’ and ‘Away’ aren’t the only Elite colorways we can expect, because we did tease you a ‘South Beach’-like colorway not long ago. Continue reading for a complete look at the Nike LeBron 9 Elite ‘Away’ and mark your calendars for April 28th as that is the release date currently set by Nike.
